A former paratrooper has attempted a new world record for jumping from an aircraft into water without a parachute.
John Bream, 34, nicknamed "the Flying Fish", dropped about 130ft from a helicopter off Hayling Island on the Hampshire coast. Support divers said he was briefly unconscious when he hit the water and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The former member of the Parachute Regiment from Havant, Hampshire, fell about four seconds before hitting the Solent at about 80mph .
Divers who reached Mr Bream after the jump said he had landed awkwardly and was briefly unconscious after hitting his head.image copyrightCash raised from Mr Bream's attempt will be donated to the All Call Signs and the Support Our Paras charities."The transition from the military is difficult but I want to show that we don't need to live in the past and we all can still achieve brilliance," he said.
A spokesperson for Guinness World Records said it was still awaiting evidence of Mr Bream's attempt and could not verify it until then.
It would be awesome if he tried it over land.
Let‘s raise awareness about mental health by jumping from great heights. Because that is what people in a mental health crisis do. Or something like that 🤔 ...anyway: Important subject, scary thing to do, but well done.
BBCWorld Wow he bet his life for a Good cause
BBCWorld It says: definitely don't try this at home. Me: already planning to fly an aircraft at home
More brilliant journalism from : sure, they tell you he was trying to break two world records, but do you think they tell you which ones? If you guessed nope, you’re right. GoToSchool, BBC!
‘Don’t try this at home’ - dang it, thought I’d plunge 150ft in to my massive ocean in my home...
BBCWorld A lot of courage need for this. Well done
Don’t try this at home....I was just about to get my aircraft out of the garage and jump in to my sea, glad I read this now 🤓
BBCWorld Who pays him tho? Like I see that he’s raising money but how is he making money
BBCWorld How could I try this at home?
Is that his phone falling with him? 🙂
I'm doing one tomorrow... Super dangerous and never been done... Jumping from a pedalo without armbands... or a parachute...
Idiot
A real man would land on concrete!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Bet you piers Morgan would make a bigger splash
Thought it was MattHancock new plan for the virus more chance of it working
Were these the other squadron of SBS lads we didn’t hear about last night?
Surely the jump is not “an attempt”, that’s easy, a certainty if he leaves the helicopter. It’s surviving it which is the hard bit. But .. WHY?
BBCWorld Great to make money for charity, unfortunately hes now in hospital with surgeons trying to remove his underpants from his chest cavity
If i am not to try this at home, then what was the point of me installing that 130ft platform above my bathtub 🤦♂️
BBCWorld Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
Rip his knees, ass, and back.
Man vs physics 1-0
Not sure 'its for charity' is reason enough to attempt something with a significant risk of death or serious injury?
BBCWorld Why would you attempt this in 2020 😐
BBCWorld Well, that is dumb
Is it a record because it's from a helicopter? I'm pretty sure there are cliff divers that jump from over 200ft for the thrill, not necessarily for charity.
Seems like a stupid hobby.
Jumping from height? ... is that a good example for mental health?
How I will try that at home ? I have no helicopter nor a swimming pool & my bath designer is a dwarf 🤣
BBCWorld I’ve done 75 feet and that was dangerous enough for me
Why.... it’s serves no purpose
BBCWorld Jumping off of rocks into water is training? Man, I didn’t know I was doing so much “work” on vacation. 😎
Pretty crap.
Don't try this at home? You mean like jumping into the bath? Who'd have a home where they could try it? Who are the idiots that supported this? They're all in need of mental health advice.
Wanna do this 😍
‘Definitely don’t try this at home’... ok, I won’t take my helicopter out to sea and jump from it
Solid ground would be more fun
BBCWorld 130ft ? I've dove from that height. 'Pure hell' lake tenkiller OK
Raising money for mental health? He needs that now.
Taken to hospital as a precaution - I bet they (NHS) were thrilled with that, with all the critical things going on!! 🤔
BBCWorld Lmao the last lines in this video ☠️☠️☠️
Or break two legs?
My anxiety can’t take this
I bet he really wanted to make a big splash.😎
This was actually done for charity, 2 mental health charities which bbc dont tell you
BBCWorld WTF ...would anyone wanna risk their life like this ?
World record ? For what ? 'Highest dive by a guy that had pizza for breakfast' or something ?
Doing it for mental health, perhaps he should take a cut and try and sort his own head out.
What’s the world record for jumping out of water into an aircraft 🤔
And..?
I don't have an ocean in my home so probably not trying it here...
No intention!
