Petrifying young women still in the earliest stages of working out who they might become stymies their potential for growth
Wasn’t able to finish it. IT IS ANNOYING.
She's already won!
I’ve read this (grudgingly) and it’s utter drivel. I hope you can come up with something better the next time your editor calls.
Women. We can’t do right for doing wrong
In your opinion.
Typical Guardian! Thank god I don't pay for it – no intention of contributing to the wages of hacks, stuck in their media echo chamber, drumming up controversy to earn money.
Hoping she will prove you wrong Laura .
What a miserable piece of writing by the ignorant and mean LauraSnapes Snipes would be more appropriate
What a dreary start to the day.
Utterly trite drivel, from the 'Deputy music editor'
FFS, just leave her be
She just won
Writing articles like that Laura Snapes, I guess means you’re a real loser..pessimism at its peak.
Wow, thanks Laura Snapes, would love to be sat next to you at a dinner party. We could discuss the flip side of other glimmers of hope in our bleak society, because that’s what we need right now, less hope, more cynicism and bleakness.
Well not with talentless hacks sharpening their knives looking for every misstep.
She's talked about like she's the second coming. No pressure...
Dear Ms. Raducanu. You'll probably never live up the expectations of Guardian columnists, we would suggest you don't even try. Ignore them. Just be you & try to have some fun along the way. Congrats on the victory! Sincerely. Everyone who doesn't subscribe to the Guardian.
What an awful headline. Guardian’s really gone to the shits these days
Just hope she’s got really good people around her. Our country is renowned for putting people up on the pedestal and then viciously bringing them back down again. Best she doesn’t tweet either as that will be used against her in 10 years time by the PC clowns.
There seems to be a real ‘yeh but’ obsession with her recent victory.
Can the Guardian stop using this young girl as a bloody prop to sell paper. Emma is an accomplished athlete with a chilled out attitude to life, yet you cannot let her enjoy her achievement . Shameless.. !!
Well, a pessimistic headline and an optimistic last sentence covers all the bases…I guess…
Jesus wept. For every amazing female success story there's a dozen feminist crazies ready to try and reframe it as a defeat requiring ever more hysterical social change and of course demonisation of men. This grift is so fucking boring. But it's The Guardian, what do you expect.
Leave her alone and let her get on with playing great tennis and enjoying life!
🤔
Not even going to read this. The Guardian should do better in its headline writing - I suspect in its 'journalism' too - although I cant confirm that as I wont be reading the article and I hope that Emma wont either.
“If they blunder – act their age – they’re lambasted. If they defy the limited imagination of the cult that has built up around them, or admit to its pressures, they’re a disappointment, an ingrate, an inconvenience.”
‘Teenage girls’? She is a young woman.
