Isle of Wight woman thought to be first person in UK banned from roads for drink-driving e-scooter

Kyah Jordan was found guilty at Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court

An Isle of Wight woman is thought to be the first person to be banned from UK roads for drink-driving an e-scooter. The magistrate told Kyah Jordan the vehicle was "the same as a moped, the same as a bus" in terms of rules the road and penalties for breaking them.fines and penalty points will be handed to e-scooter riders jumping a red light, using a mobile phone or riding on the pavement. It remains illegal to use a privately owned e-scooter on public roads, cycle lanes or pavements.

And owners risk a £300 fine, six penalty points on their driving licence and an additional fine for not having insurance., the operating company will provide insurance, can be ridden - with a full or provisional driving licence - at up to 15.5mph on roads in regions where they are being trialled.Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety executive director David Davies said: "Using privately owned e-scooters on UK roads is illegal.

"If this gets people out of the car, reducing congestion and exercising in the open air, then even better."

So it's ok to ride a hired one on the road because they say they provide insurance? But the police say they're treated the same as a car or bus? How can it be insured without tax or an MOT then?

If e-scooters are illegal to ride, they should not be legal to sell. Furthermore, Deliveroo should check what vehicle their 'self-employed' worker is using before giving them work to do.

Usual UK unforwardthinking shite. In use all over europe without major issue and a great way to get around.

So e-Scootetd are illegal and need s licence and insurance but e-Bikes are not

Any excuse for the Stasi to act like bullies and mug people.

Good. Serves her right.

If you 'drink drive' anything, then it must be punishable by law. Simple! Also for safety of both people riding this and others, they must have some kind of light indicators and/or wear high visibility jacket or something. 🤔

How dim do you have to be to think that e-scooters are a good idea?

I share Huw Merriman's point of view. Since the government is committed to phasing out fossilized vehicles, e-scooters remain a good alternative amid other evolving climate friendly means of transportation. Breachers of safety rules have no justification acting in clear flagrant.

It wasn't an 'Isle of Wight woman' though. She's from Hampshire (New Milton) and committed the offence on the IOW.

How about all the scooter users illegally riding on the pavements around Bristol? It's got worse since the trial even though they're private scooters being used.

Should be banned period. A nuisance on pavements..dangerous.

I wonder how much one of those might cost in Africa. I can't wait to ever get my hands on one of those.

BerylBikes is this with you ?

Of course it would be on the IOW

These things are death vehicles. As a driver at night time you don't see their riders sloot about. They don't wear fluorescent clothing and then have miniature lights near ground level, if they have a light at all.

If this woman was black the BBC wouldn't of reported it and she would of got off Scot free

Short on news today

Time these were legalized!! If it stops some car use then surely it's a winner.

Except being allowed in bus lanes...?

Ha!

This is rather funny....

Has anyone been arrested or even had a fine and had their illegal e-scooter confiscated by a cop anywhere?

New South African strain now in UK , army stepping in at Shropshire Wolverhampton & west Midlands hospitals & back to school at half term MixedMessages

For a scooter rider, the rules should be “right of weight not right of way”.

Sure, but what about this murderous Tory regime, or is that off limits for you lot?

GoodPeopleGPA

Government is out of control pedos get to walk free but this

Unlucky 😂😂😂😂
