After the congratulations, EU leaders wait to see what Boris Johnson can bring to the Brexit table.

In the often-divisive Brexit world of"them and us" it's easy to forget that, beyond Brexit, EU leaders still see the UK as a close partner and ally. Their messages of congratulation to Boris Johnson from across Europe on Tuesday - notably from French President Emmanuel Macron - are a timely reminder of that.

EU invitations to the new prime minister to work with them"constructively" do not signal a willingness to accept whatever the new prime minister might demand in terms of changes to the Brexit deal. One influential EU figure put it to me that there were currently two schools of thought in the EU when it comes to Boris Johnson:

First and foremost though, the EU is waiting to see which figures will have Boris Johnson's ear once he's in Downing Street.

Think parliament make up there own rules

Hmmm.... suspend parliament and finish Brexit.

Brussels have already made it clear that they will not change the plan.

If he gives us brexit then goes to the country he will win another term, because Corbyn has lost any impetus he might have had, but if he doesn't give us brexit first he will lose because a lot of his voters will vote for the brexit party instead! HALF THE COUNTRY WANTS TO LEAVE.

EU said no further negotiations and remember they didn’t ask to leave or ask us to leave.

No, a new PM does indeed NOT mean a new Brexit plan. Everyone who listened to Brussels can answer that easy question. But as I noticed Mr Borris is not the cleverest like Trump 😁

Groundhog day continues

What is the EU saying, is more to the point

Or: Can the idiot who said we can have our cake and eat it, now demonstrate HTF that is possible?...

Just bin to Sainsbury's fer bottled water. Sold out! First betrayal & not even Out!

Go Boris!! I know nothing about him or his policies but he has my complete support

Boris's strategy for Brexit has always been to use the Irish border as a 'know-it-all' scapegoat, humiliating European allies. To avoid an hard border, he wants a free market with EU, with UK out of any treaty. A world in a clown suicidal vision.

He'll tell everyone there is and some will believe him but it could be under the bus time for them.

No Seriously bbc, have a go at some real journalism sometimes.

mmmm, Blonde like DonaldTrump , Gives a thumbs up like DonaldTrump , Could it be? 😮

I didn't even know we had an old brexit plan, let alone a new one! 👀

It has to

It needs tweaking, the EU doesn't want a no deal Brexit so they need to be open to suggestions also 👌

No

Geneva two , IGNORE BRUSSELS

With the evil party and stupid party nothing will change

Yes.... because Parliament has rejected the WA 3 times, and unless they offer material change, it cannot be put forward for further votes. It’s on the EU to make concessions now, otherwise BoJo takes us out in October!

Tory plan is to use Boris to deflect us away from inhuman policies and bad planning....by saying 'Yeah but .....

NO! NotMyPrimeMinister GeneralElectionNow

George says 'You have got a very pro-Brexit British Prime Minister and you have got Nigel Farage's Brexit Party.' If someone had told you 5 years ago that the UK would be a battleground between IDS and Jeremy Corbyn you’d have killed yourself. Boris is quite capable of thinking for himself. Donald Trump's trade war hurting China more than US, says IMFBrexit uncertainty and impact of Iran sanctions also likely to slow world growth, says Fund Good news. NotBuyingIt somebody being paid pretty well to say that. China gets their goods elsewhere, and despite what Trump wants everyone to believe, China is NOT paying tariffs on US goods because they're buying very little. US consumers are footing his tariff bill on Chinese imports. That’s only because Dotard used our tax dollars to bail out the corporate farms, and to help foreign corporations buy out our busted family farms at bargain prices.
