Adam had to be carried up six flights of stairs in his wheelchair not too long ago as the lifts in his block regularly break down. He now fears that if the block had to be evacuated, he wouldn't be able to get out quickly.

Tower block safety: Disabled man carried to flat after lifts broke downA disabled man who lives in a London tower block says he feels like “a prisoner in his own home” after he had to be carried to his flat on the sixth floor.

Adam Gabsi, who lives in Harrow in north-west London, has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair. The only way he can get to his flat independently is by using the lifts - and he says they regularly break down. He has developed a fear of not being able to leave his block without assistance, something which plays on his mind given that 15 disabled people died in the Grenfell Tower fire of June 2017.

His landlord, housing association MTVH, says it shares residents' frustrations and is working to replace the lifts.

Why in god's name are disabled housed above 2nd floor? Same with elderly and families they should all be restricted as to how high up they can live. So obvious, not rocket science. Honestly!!

I would love to see what the building Fire Risk Assessment says with regard to Adam’s PEEP (personal emergency evacuation plan).

The lack of disability access could affect any of us at any time, I can't quite get it in to my head why other people can't understand this.

The lifts are not rocket science. Just keep the regular maintenance up .

I had similar worries and was never provided an evacuation plan. I was lucky enough to move out - but I would sleep in hour stints and was terrified. I hope Adam manages to get the support needed. Thank you for covering this story.
