There is a “spiking epidemic” sweeping the UK, she said: “Every single women here will have a story about them or one of their friends being spiked. How are we supposd to make people feel safe when feelings often have no link to reality.
When I was younger (much younger) the Guardian prided itself on its dissenting view. It ran an ad at the cinema showing an apparent street robbery from 3 perspectives with the by-line “Take a different view”. Now, in matters of race or gender, the paper takes only one.
What’s more likely? Legions of mysterious poisoners in our pubs and clubs or large numbers of young women out on the lash after lockdown and drinking more than they can handle?
This has all the hallmarks of an urban myth but, because it’s a womens’ issue, the authorities are reluctant to consider the possibility. Where’s the evidence, not the anecdotes?
I don't think Covid is listening, but its definitely waiting...for them.
