Baby boy Robert Ion was ‘cruelly taken away in the place where he should have been protected and safe’ Robert Ion suffered a ‘horrific death’ when Mihai-Catalin Gulie, 28, inflicted catastrophic head injuries.
He was found unresponsive two-and-a-half months after coming home to live with his parents and sister, 2, in Widnes, Cheshire. Paramedics who raced to the scene said Robert initially showed no signs of life but was taken to hospital after six minutes of CPR. Nicholas Johnson, QC, prosecuting, said they were ‘classic signs of a previous forceful shaking’ by Gulie.
Ion said she was scared of Gulie and hadn’t known Robert was so ill so couldn’t have foreseen he would die.
