The trouble with 'long term plans' that actually cost money is plenty will point out that the money being spent on *possible' threats that *might* happen sometime in the distant future should be sent on things that need fixing right here and now.
We need fully funded and staffed health systems and we need government that governs in the interests of the population and not base every decision around political ideology.
Go further. A key problem we have is that if our future leaders spot a problem like COVID coming, they will struggle to act until it is too late for fear of political pressure. We need a politically independent CDC, with a set of principles designed to protect our people.
