How worrying are the UK, South Africa, and Brazil coronavirus variants?

New variants of coronavirus are emerging that are more infectious than the original one that started the pandemic. What are these new variants?that has become dominant in much of Britain and has spread to more than 50 other countriesIt's not unexpected that new variants have developed - all viruses mutate as they make new copies of themselves to spread and thrive. Most of these differences are inconsequential. A few can even be harmful to the virus's survival.

The South Africa variant emerged in October, and it has more potentially important changes in the spike protein than the UK variant. The UK has imposed a ban on direct flights from South Africa and restrictions on flights to the country. Anyone who has travelled there recently, and anyone they have been in contact with, are being told to quarantine immediately.

As with flu vaccines, where a new shot is given each year to account for any changes in circulating flu viruses, something similar could happen for coronavirus. There is currently no evidence to suggest that any of them cause more serious illness.

Where was it again the AstraZeneca vaccine trials were carried out?

So for the last 11-12 months we have been hear about covid, stay home, do this, do that and since they finally got a vaccine there are 3 more variants? Coincidence or just trying to keep us on the back foot 🤔

Not. At. All

BBC FearFactory

We need better boarder control to stop these variants, coming over here taking up our hospital beds. I thought Brexit would stop all this!😁

If you are 40 - 50 and being complying only the elderly get it, very.

More scaremongering and unnecessary headlines.

We have known of thousands of COVID variants for a very long time. This is what viruses do and will keep on doing. It is Virology 101. Nice for the BBC to catch up on this, but in general, the media should do better overall science reporting.

Stop international travel or put people in hotels for mandatory quarantine.

😎😷👁

Viruses mutate, fact. If they are more deadlier then we worry. If they are less deadly then worry less .

No doubt after wall to wall coverage on every news outlet they will be extremely worrying to the general public. But I suppose that’s the end game right

I don't know, how worried does an army of Government Behavioural Scientists conducting Psychological Warfare on the public want me to be ?

I frankly dont care, lets face it there are many others too.
