It is not as bad in UK as there are some other countries with three weeks of quarantine. From what I read foreigners arriving in China have the test for clearance done on their back ends.

It’s unfortunate he’s in this situation but millions of people are in this situation. Many have not been able to be there when a loved one died. Many grandparents haven’t hugged their grandchildren for over a year.
