The final easing of lockdown measures in England is still set for 19 July, the new health secretary has said.He said that while cases were rising, the number of deaths "remains mercifully low".
Addressing the House of Commons for the first time as health secretary, Mr Javid added that the government was aiming for "around two thirds of all adults in this country" to have had two doses of a coronavirus vaccine by 19 July.according to new analysis fromThe end of England's lockdown was originally scheduled for 21 June, but was pushed back by four weeks with the promise of a review after two. Mr Javid's update marks the end of that review.
The new health secretary is clearly confident that all remaining restrictions can be lifted then. The next two weeks will prove whether that faith is misplaced or not.He replied that it was certainly the government's intention to "remove restrictions" - but whether that will be all or just some, he added: "As we follow the data in the coming days, we will set out more in due course.
"So what is he going to do to push infections down? Vaccinations will do it eventually but not in the next four weeks."were "very likely" to be able to return to "pretty much life before Covid" on 19 July.
Not everyone is optimistic DrEricDing QUOTE Look at what is happening in Israel. Cases and hospitalizations both surging. UK has less fully vaccinated % and UK uses mostly a lower efficacy vaccine (2/3rd AZ) against DeltaVariant than Israel uses. UK is in trouble.
We've gone from one idiotic Health secretary to another one !
Proof that being sacked does your career prospects no harm in government
What a total banker.

Big statement, big mouth and no evidence to back it up. Bluster and political BS will put all our lives back at risk.
If you want restrictions to continue, you're a virgin with no mates
There was nothing in the data in Dec, Feb, April or June The new (INSERT LOCATION NAME) varient will appear in the news between 1st-7th July Then the fear will be cranked up again b4 the inevitable 'just a few more weeks' speech Then they'll be preparing the winter lockdown
Damn they're still wearing masks there?
At last someone is talking sense
And Johnson kept telling us there was nothing in the data for the June date to be when we open up.
We're even more fked wi Uncle Fester in charge 🙄
.... Or die with it!!!
Sandi Javid is the new Health Secretary. But he states over and over again that his absolute priority is to reopen everything as soon as possible. So his priority is not our health, or our safety. What kind of Health Secretary is that?
Is that his professional medical opinion or the opinion of a US banker? How is an employee of a foreign bank in charge of my health?
Someone else who has learnt nothing over the last 15 months. You can't negotiate with Covid.
BBCPolitics Which is why he got the job.
BBCPolitics
BBCPolitics Let the bodies pile high (again) 🙄
Talk is cheap... let’s see what actually happens! Definitely time to end these restrictions which have curtailed our freedoms for far too long with the end of the media including the BBC propitiating fear & propaganda 😮 EndTheLockdown
Are they just throwing Sajid Javid any cabinet position and hoping one sticks?
Someone with some sense! It’s a virus we have to live with, probably been around longer than all of us anyway!
So he has no understanding of the Delta variant or the possibility of the Delta+ variant, shameful
I can see the reflection of the camera on his head!
With cases rising exponentially please tell me how we can unlock further when the current measures are proven to be inadequate?
