NHS healthcare workers need clarity over the future of free hospital parking after a health minister announced funding for it"cannot continue indefinitely", a Liberal Democrat MP has said.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on 25 March that the government would cover the parking costs of NHS staff who were"going above and beyond every day" during theBut health minister Edward Argar has since said the government is looking at how long this support will"need" to go on. In response to a written question from Labour MP Rachael Maskell, he said:"The provision of free parking for National Health Service staff by NHS Trusts has not ended and nothing has changed since the announcement on 25 March.
"However, free parking for staff has only been made possible by support from local authorities and independent providers and this support cannot continue indefinitely."

Not all of them as I experienced half full medical wards with nurses aimless. Hardly any patients in cardiac outpatients & nurses sat around bored. Cancer patients dying due to lack of treatment yet wards closed. No GPs going to surgery, just phone calls so not fit for purpose.

This time I agree with govt. it should be the local council that exempts the healthcare workers from parking fees as they run the parking schemes or allowed private companies in, your local council and MP should be dealing with this not the wider taxpayer in general.

wonder how many patients have died unnecessarily in hosptial because the nurse or doctor etc were just those few minutes too late to the bed side because they had to go pay for another parking ticket. Just the worry of the ticket can distract staff enough & endanger patient lives
