Coronavirus: Free appeals for schools, and businesses reopen

When lockdown began, my grandad, who had dementia, had no understanding of the virus and the changes or restrictions it brought. Three days after my grandparents quietly celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in late June,

The pandemic meant limited visiting and by the time loved ones were able to see him, he was barely recognisable as the man who had left home just six weeks before. When the UK entered lockdown in March, councils in England were given £3.2m to provide emergency shelter for rough sleepers. One of those who had spent 15 years sleeping rough. He has now moved into his own flat - and has become a Star Trek fan.George Murray spends evenings in his flat watching TV and has become"a bit of a Star Trek fan"

Not fucking good enough.

Wtf why do we have to keep encouraging illegals to come here. We are inviting them to come across the channel to milk the taxpayer dry we have to stop this happening

It’s another use of taxpayers’ money that could’ve been spent on other things if we hadn’t got TheGovernmentFromHell HoldThemToAccount DoYourJob

However...

Question for all tv news and newspaper education editors. Did any boys sit A Levels this year?

Where are the celebrity voices when needed in support of the kids who are their fans, everybody needs to shout loudly about this injustice!

Private candidates such as home educated students do not have an individual right of appeal with CambridgeInt . Please can someone advocate for these students. homeeducation

Only for this country having more pupils in higher education seems to be a burden! 🤷‍♀️ why not let those in deprived areas study and climb up! Or this is not the equality we all aim for? Shame!

But that will not bring back lost Uni places and broken dreams!

Another Photo with Muzzles on sheep outside on the MSM. Expect these freedom of expression gags to be extended to the outdoors.

Exam results last 5 yrs... average. Exam results next 5 yrs... average. Grades awarded by teachers due to no exams...good. Unless you want this year's kids to be looked at through history as 'the year an A was just below a normal B', grades have to be adjusted. Flatten the curve!

BBC, WHOOPY DO! Free appeals for the peasants, how about reporting the scandel of 40% of pupils downgraded.

My son has special educational needs and goes to a private school which is the lowest ranked in the county and does worse academically than local state schools. He goes there because of his special needs. Let's not bash one group of kids. They are in it together

Is there a process yet for appeals? What's the time scale? Nothing is ever free. We'll all have to pay for this ToryShambles ToryChaos ExamResults AlevelResults GavinWilliamsonResign England examshambles

As usual the BBC promoting one narrative. My daughter at private school knows many in year above downgraded and not just by one grade for example in mock one girl 2A*1A - ACD. You let Burnham spout off about discrimination/inequality without challenge.

Go to school in a normal year...do exam...get a B. Don't go to school during lockdown...no exam...get an A. Conclusion...schools are detrimental to education. Let's close schools looking to mass appeal grades, as they clearly are the problem! Let's start with Manchester

1. Thousands of classrooms were empty during the lockdown why did no one clean and prepare these for the small number of students to the exams. 2. Teachers putting schools reputation above student. 3. Life does not meet expectations all the time.

Let's be cynical. If the results stand & they are 20% higher than last year. Then theoretically demand for university places could be 20% higher = not enough places. Ofsted ratings go up significantly = no bad schools. Flawed as it may be, there's no simple solution.

Appeal what exactly, a fake mark, they need to take in the Autumn and gain the actual mark

Boris should think on.. the students he has just shit on, are all eligible to vote in the next election.

What about this ... scandal... students who took Cambridge Tecnicals 👇

There are many disappointed students every year, but this year they have someone else to blame other than themselves. Teachers have always overestimated, just human nature. No doubt there are anomalies but not as many as suggested I strongly suspect.

How can you appeal when you still haven’t received your results!!! My daughter, over 48 hours after results day has still not received her results for Btech !!! Shambles !!!!

In an evidence based system there is no need for an algorithm based on socio-economic factors. What previous cohorts have done bears no relationship to what the current cohorts have done. For a system recording individual achievement there is no room for generalisations.

GavinWilliamson and the inept conservatives govt have shown a complete failure over the A-level results process and now will use public money to pay for appeals. This isn’t a climb down it’s just another example of their utter incompetence WilliamsonResign

A student of mine that got A* in every topic test and also 3 separate mocks got downgraded from an A* to an A. It is because this year I have a very small group and the slightly stronger A* student got the one space I was allocated due to the algorithm! In any other year...

Sorry, not good enough - this would mean we accept the validity of the algorithm and are just cross-checking. The algorithm was deliberately discriminatory. We need to ditch its results and decide another way to validate the work and ability of these students
