JAPAN'S government is facing questions over how it handled the outbreak of the coronavirus on the quarantined Diamond Princess ship as it was confirmed a British man has died after boarding the cruise liner.

He boarded the cruise on January 20 in Yokohama, Japan, and disembarked five days later.
