THE FIRST of hundreds of thousands of food parcels have begun to arrive at the doors of the 1.5 million most vulnerable people in society who are being shielded from coronavirus.

The operation - the biggest domestic aid programme since the Second World War - saw around 2,000 packages being delivered over the weekend to those who should not leave their homes because severe health conditions puts them at greater risk. More than 50,000 deliveries are expected to arrive this week but this should rise to hundreds of thousands, depending on demand.
