Ban on landlords evicting renters extended

The extension will run from 25 June, the end of the the three-month period originally announced

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said it would benefit"millions of renters". Government support for renters during the pandemic was"unprecedented", Mr Jenrick said.Polly Neate, chief executive of Shelter, said:"The government has reset the clock on the evictions ban, buying the families who were only weeks away from losing their homes a vital stay of execution.

But she said:"The ban hasn't stopped people who've lost their jobs during this pandemic from racking up rent arrears. Even if they have a plan to pay them back, these debts will throw struggling renters straight back into the firing line of an automatic eviction as soon as the ban does lift. "It's critical that Robert Jenrick uses this extension wisely to change the law and properly protect renters," she added.Dame Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, said:"Simply extending the pause of repossession is a sticking plaster not a cure. People who have fallen behind on rent arrears and those who have been furloughed or lost their jobs will need the security of proper reform to the rules governing evictions.

"We look forward to working with the government in the coming weeks on changes to make sure they keep their promise, that no renter should lose their home because of coronavirus."

This should come as a great comfort to my neighbour who has managed to get away with not paying his rent for 18 months , not sure the owner will be to pleased.

Great news for all the rubbish tenants that haven’t paid a penny and intend to do a runner. Not so great if your house is getting trashed and you still have an outstanding mortgage to pay.

What about protection for landlords who rely on rent to pay their mortgage? I'm fed up with everyone assuming landlords own numerous mortgage-free properties and they live comfortably off the rents!

Just remember you can’t blame all non payment on Covid and some folks live on rent generated from another source...

They need to make it law that people don’t have to pay rent if they are made unemployed or furloughed through Covid19 like the mortgage furlough and given sufficient time to make up the missing payments, not just a couple of months!

So what are the landlords who rely on these rents to pay the bills & mortgage supposed to do It's their livelihood!!!

Easy solution. Just double the rent next time round. Most rental properties are on buy to let mortgages so payments need to be made.

Those poor private landlords trying to obtain their pound of flesh, what'll they do now.

Good.

In, not I’m

so who pays the bills ?

Opinion: The coronavirus 'sex ban' row proves we're still obsessed with romantic relationshipsThe coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact of all kinds of human relationships. Single people have lost the physical presence of their entire support network, yet nobody is talking about other relationships that are strained If I could find one (a relationship) so would I be... 🙄 So, I guess this ban will cut down on the number of cheating spouses :) I am just going to die if I don't get some pie. And the death will be called caused by covid-19.
