The coal-supporting nation has faced increasing pressure to commit to a net-zero emissions target.

Australia's prime minister has signalled he may not attend the UN's landmark climate conference in November as his government faces continued criticism of its poor climate record.

"It's another trip overseas... and I've spent a lot of time in quarantine," he told the West Australian newspaper. It is hoped that the 12-day meeting between world leaders in Glasgow, Scotland will produce the next emissions standards, aimed to slow global warming and keep temperature rise below 1.5C.

But the nation has steadfastly resisted committing to deeper cuts in this timeframe, or net zero emissions by 2050 - a goal already pledged by the US, the UK and many other developed nations.

Labour conference: Angela Rayner won't apologise now for calling Johnson 'scum'Labour's deputy leader says she will say sorry when the PM apologises for past 'racist' comments. Good. An elected official should know better, no matter what their personal opinions are. Incivility and unprofessional. Lol! I remember when members were expelled during the 2016 leadership campaign for calling Tories scum! Back when Tom Watson was calling us TrotsRabbleDogs
