Campaigners say more research is needed to work out why mortality rates remain exceptionally high for babies from ethnically diverse backgrounds, a report examining baby loss finds.

Overall rates of stillbirth and neonatal deaths have fallen by just over 20% and 12% respectively between 2013 and 2019. Neonatal death rates among Asian babies are 60% higher than white babies, and 43% greater for babies of a black ethnicity. Dr Clea Harmer, chief executive of the Stillbirth And Neonatal Death Society, told Sky News:"The really worrying thing is that we don't really know the whole story.
