Comedy clubs get serious with plea for emergency arts funding

The association surveyed more than 660 people working in comedy, from venue owners and stand-up performers to producers and publicists, about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. It found:45% of workers have given serious thought to leaving comedy28% have been ineligible for any government assistance, despite needing supportThere are 600 comedy clubs in the UK, according to the association. Kirby said:"We need live comedy to be included in the distribution of this £1.57bn.

Kirby has met officials from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport , who told her there was no reason comedy would be actively excluded but that they were waiting for guidelines, she said. Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, comedian Shazia Mirza said small clubs were vital for all performers who go on to play bigger venues or star on TV.Image captionFellow stand-up Kiri Pritchard-McLean warned:"I don't think there will be an industry to go back to. The people giving this money don't understand how the industry works, least of all comedy.

BBCPolitics UK, shouldn't that read London?

Can I have some emergency funding please to help me pay for all the emergency funding

Most of the comedians and comedic programmes nowadays are leftwing, virtual signalling shite. For example: Miranda, Kumars and even Not Going Out Absolute pish 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well neither of the two “ comedians “ you had on yesterday told a funny joke so they need to do better or get a proper job.

Why don’t all the rich comedians start a rescue fund.

Most comedy clubs are for woke, lefties. Society would be better off without their contribution to carping about the government and 'Tory voters'.

It’s a joke

I wouldn’t bother, there’s barely anything funny around these days as it is.

BBCPolitics You’re not ballet or opera in London, so forget it.

So many of the new comedies now are just awful. Maybe the emergency art fund would be wasted.

BBCPolitics ....try being funny.

Is this a joke?

They’ll just get laughed at by the government!

Most comedy clubs are unfunny people on stage laying into Tories & white straight men and the right-on audience lapping it up, so let them get their own funding

Are we allowed to tell jokes?

What next.

BBCPolitics Very funny

It no joke or laughing matter
