A CHURCH has sparked controversy after offering to cover up crosses and a picture of Jesus so Muslims could say prayers during Ramadan.
The plans were discussed at a church meeting on May 9 attended by Rev Scott and Gerald Lee, a former mayor of Darlington. It stated that church law does not permit acts of worship by non-Christians in a Church of England building. Speaking of the Diocese's decision to get involved, he told Christian magazine Premier: "They realise that the vicar made a silly mistake.
NO!!!! That is not the way forward! A perceived sign of weakness will be acted upon by extremists. Already a record number of churches have been burnt to the ground in France and maybe even Notre Dame Herself. Christianity cannot surrender with a whimper.
Is this really relevant, given that Muslims revere Jesus and Mary? Mary is actually mentioned many more times in the Quran than in the bible, and Jesus is expected to sit on the judgement seat on the final day. Therefore Muslims can feel at home in any church building.

I live in an area where Christian, and catholic churches and mosques are side by side. Never once have i witnessed any hatred towards the churches. So why do you need to cover this story and start a religious hate campaign. Don't you think there is enough in the world. THE SUN.

Absolutely stupid & crass. A church is a church and a cross is a fundamental part of that churches history and religion. Muslims can go in, no one stops them, they are encouraged, however, covering up a cross to pacify is like a butcher banning beef because a vegan is passing by!

The Christian artifacts in a church serve no purpose in being hidden. Most Muslims won't be offended in seeing them. It's nice to accommodate others, but we would be respectful of the religious adornment of other faiths
