No 10 says England’s chief medical officer was responsible for keeping it at level four

The decision for England’s official coronavirus alert level to remain at four despite this week’s easing of some lockdown restrictions was made by the chief medical officer, Downing Street has said, indicating he vetoed the government’s wish for it to be lowered.

In a sea of self serving hypocrites, CMO_England Chris Whitty is literally our lifeboat

The cool voice of reason. Matt Hancock will try and have you believe he understands the science, but in all likelihood, I suspect he has no more than a GCSE in it. Our Govt has lost all credibility, trust and focus. Reassuringly, its scientific advisers have not.

It is said that we should not be on Red alert for too long. Otherwise, people would begin to doubt that it is necessary. It’s not science, but human nature.

So the government are literally gambling with people’s lives. I hope you remember that at the next election.....if you’re still here.

marcuschown And he’s still in post?

Good for you. A sensible adult

CMO_England you should go public and expose BorisJohnson and his master dominiccummings

Lead by the science! Do not knock the man for doing his job

at last ! someone at the top showing common sense

At last he is doing his job. I wonder why schools need have opened now at all. The very simple solution is to tack onto the end of all's schooling an additional term, Leave and start Dec/Jan rather than July/Sept. Nothing missed.

Follow the science 😬

There were no traffic jams on the motorways last week but there are this week. 'not changing the alert level' has not caused this but HMG-UK's refusal to sack the law breaking Cummings has. Both he and BorisJohnson must go before progress can be made.

Shame he was also part of the sham and should have spoken up earlier...

Why are they allowing lifting of measures then?

So we're still at level four... Why are we eating lockdown again? So we'd forget 260 miles!

The sole voice of reason in a government of arseholes.

Point to note for those of you who didn't read the article: The threat level hasn't been lowered and remains at level 4

An honourable man who will be pilloried by the right wing to try and deflect criticism from Johnson and Hancock.

Why not name the ‘spokesman’ ?

A scientist reviewing the evidence and doing his job? BURN THE WITCH

The no 10 statements are a stack of cynical lies. Does the torrid little Tory mouthpiece not realise there’s a host of Inquiries coming, and he will be named and held responsible

Someone has to have some sense I guess

I’m surprised Cummings hasn’t frog marched him out. Or is he delving into if he went to a non local shop for a chocolate bar during lockdown and so should be fired.

oh so he’s not just a chocolate fire guard
