China becomes second nation to successfully land spacecraft on Mars

China's state media reported that the spacecraft touched down at what was 7.18pm Eastern time in the United States on Friday. Plans call for a rover to stay in the lander for a few days of diagnostic tests before exploring an icy area of Mars known as Utopia Planitia. The rover will join an American rover that arrived at the red planet in February. China's rover is named Zhurong after a god of fire in Chinese folk tales.
