Payment firm Klarna messed up my credit score, says student

Erin Phillips"I wasn't too worried, because my credit score was quite good. The next time I checked, it had nearly halved," Erin Phillips says.

She missed a few payments - not realising that it could affect her credit score, which banks and credit card companies use to decide whether or not to lend to people. "I was quite naive, and I didn't think these little purchases would affect me so much, usually between £20 and £80. If I had known, I would have just used my credit card."Debt charities are calling on buy now pay later firms to be better at explaining risks to customers' finances in their adverts.

But, it says that all terms and conditions are displayed on its website and at the online checkouts of its 4,500 retail partners, including Asos, H&M and Topshop. It also told the BBC no complaints had ever been upheld about its ads.

Stunning BBC journalism at its worst.

Should read 'Buy now then not paying later messed up my credit score' hope klarna take you to court for besmirching their name.

Didn't pay her bills, blames someone else... Welcome to today's youth. Something for nothing,

How is it Klarna's fault if she missed payments?

So it wasn’t Klarna at all that messed up her credit score - it was the fact SHE missed “a few payments”.

She didn’t pay them on time so it is actually her fault she has ruined her credit score. The young generation are quick to blame everybody else for their own failings.

If you can't be counted on to repay £20 when it's due...

Reminds me of a SkyNews bandwagoneering effort on the horrors of this when it turned out Wonga had slipped a bung to a political party. As they were still running TVCs for the company pushing 4000% APR every other break.

I am utterly convinced that this is a jokey clickbait article, and that the 'Erin Phillips' is a figment of the author's imagination. Who keeps track of their credit score but doesn't know who their creditors are? They would be listed with the balance. Naive in the extreme. 😔

This company should sue for this shameful headline.

Disorganised, naive student blames someone else for her own mistake

If you don't have money then don't spend it

Missed a few payment, but it's someone else's fault not hers Haha bless

Both extremely naive and contradictory on her part - you’ve blamed the company for your lack of time management and common sense. 🤦🏾‍♂️

She messed up her own score by missing payments. Perhaps next time, only buy it if you can pay for it there and then and not use these loan companies.

Misleading title should say person who didn’t pay bills doesn’t understand how credit scores work

sounds like shes a dumb bitch

This girl is thick as mince. Can't believe the BBC are reporting this tosh. Should read Snowflake doesn't pay credit agreement on time then blames everyone but herself.

“She missed a few payments - not realising that it could affect her credit score” But the BBC thinks we should believe it’s Klarna’s fault her credit score was messed up.

“She missed a few payments, not realising it could affect her credit score” well der 🙄🤦‍♂️

Ok BBC, another good human interest without the underlay of your usual left wing dogma. well done

Surely this should read 'Not paying my bills messed up my credit score'

On the one hand she prides herself on being organised with monthly payments. But, on the other hand she missed a few payments, and thought nothing of it... Whenever you take our credit (the clue is in the name), your credit score can be affected... 🙄🙄🙄

No you messed it up!!!! unless they have you arm bent up your back forcing you to spend money

Or you could buy it when you have the money, or go without.

It's simple. Pay what you said, positive. Renege, negative. Student ought to be smarter.

Apple Card: Major US bank investigated over claims its credit limit algorithms are sexistA man claimed he was offered a credit limit that was 20 times higher than his wife's - even though she had a higher credit score. Is there nothing in this world now what’s not offending !!! Credit card companies give higher credit to people that are more likely to default as that will mean more interest payments for them.
