Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has written to the leading petrol retailers 'to remind them of their responsibilities' to pass on tax cuts to motorists

"The chancellor and I therefore want to re-emphasise and communicate again our expectation that members do everything possible to ensure that drivers are getting a fair deal across the country."

"We know that a number of retailers - big supermarkets, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's - are passing on the cuts and we will raise this with other petrol retailers. But Gordon Balmer, executive director of the Petrol Retailers Association, which represents independent forecourts, said comparing pump prices with wholesale prices"only gives a partial picture" as it does not account for"additional expenses" including delivery costs.

"While the chancellor was announcing it, oil prices rose and effectively cancelled out the reduction.

Surely if companies are not passing on tax cuts.then action should be taken against the companies. While he is on, he can get the banks to increase interest rates on savings account. Interest rates risen but not on bank accounts.

No good reminding them, you need to in force it. Stop molly coddling these big businesses. But maybe this is an approach where what ever time they take your gaining more taxes but making look like your doing something, for us.

A strongly worded letter always sorts these things out. Our local has gone up 10p in the last week.

I am am sure his strongly worded letter is causing them to crap themselves, with laughter he needs to take action against them not write letters.

That'll do it....

Pity they can’t do it to energy companies will they rake in billions!!

Cap the price Any retailer found to go over the cap will be incarcerated with no possibility of parole

You need to take a look at Sout Africa. Our Fuel price are rising so steeply that very soon citizens won't be able to afford it anymore

Quaking in their boots as the price goes up and up

Local garage to us have put there's up 2o on top of everything else 🤔

Pathetic. When are we going to get rid of this useless excuse of a Government!

Better to assist people directly, many big corporates have history not passing on public benefits and just improve their bottom line ?

what are their responsibilities actually, I'm pretty sure.... no wait... I'm positive that they're adhering to the principles of free market capitalism, so much for the vat cuts that were promised by the government, who votes for these charlatans
