that does have glimmers of amusement and forward momentum, but is too smarmy in tone and convoluted in plot to really succeed.is Ladybug, an unlucky assassin asked to steal an important briefcase on a high-speed train from Tokyo to Kyoto. The briefcase is in the hands of brutal assassins Lemon and Tangerine, played by Bryan Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor Johnson respectively, with some of the most obnoxiously exaggerated Cockney accents this side of Dick Van Dyke.
Then there’s a mysterious young woman in baby pink , a fierce-eyed Japanese father on a mission , and a poisonous snake to contend with: somebody has been pulling the strings to ensure that all of these warring assassins kill one another, and they must figure out why. Most of the cast is strong, and doing a convincing job with the material they’ve been given: Pitt, one of our great film stars, is slouching through the drama in a bucket hat and oblivious therapy platitudes. Given he’s been asked to fire off expressions like “shitballs” and “fucknuts”, it’s a shame his efforts have been spent on a film this inane.
