BREAKING: Boris Johnson plans to ban MPs from paid political consultant and lobbying roles

The prime minister tweeted a letter this afternoon saying he had written to the Commons Speaker with his plans to ‘update’ the Code of Conduct for MPs. He said MPs who fail to focus on their constituents should be ‘investigated and appropriately punished’. Detailing his plans in a letter to Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle, he said they would ensure MPs who are ‘neglecting their duties to their constituents and prioritising outside interests would be investigated, and appropriately punished by the existing disciplinary authorities’.
