'The Prime Minister is backing British industry' Newsnight's nicholaswatt speaks to Cabinet Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg MP on why the Prime Minister's ethics advisor Lord Geidt resigned 📋 Full report tonight on BBC Two 22:30

Lord Geidt is the second ethics adviser to quit under Mr Johnson's premiership.in 2020 - said it was "dreadful that an honourable man like Lord Geidt has been placed in a position where he felt he had no option but to resign".

But Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Simon Clarke, insisted the issue over which Lord Geidt resigned was one in which the government was "trying to do its best to support a British industrial sector" and nothing to do "with a personal ethics or conduct issue". Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said Parliament should be allowed to vet the next ethics adviser "so that Johnson can't simply appoint one of his cronies".In his resignation letter, Lord Geidt expresses concern about the prime minister's reaction to widespread Covid rule-breaking in Downing Street, as highlighted in Sue Gray's report.

Now that the letter has been published, it appears a trade question was the final straw, but many questions remain. The Trade Remedies Authority is a relatively new body, established after Brexit to decide whether action needed to be taken to protect UK industries., which decided to protect 15 steel products when the authority had recommended only 10.

nicholaswatt I hope not to the exclusion of 180+ other countries that also exist on the planet! We all need each other! Dont be so short sighted like P&0, corporates, be smart, good government goes far, honesty and truth, broaden your horizons, build bridges, selflessness, get what you give

nicholaswatt Have the U.K. Total Numbers of Deaths with Covid mentioned on the death certificate topped 200,000 yet! It was close LAST week..... with no UPDATED figures 'available' until Friday ....... AFTER the two bye-elections!?!?!? Well I never?!

nicholaswatt are you going to report on this story?

nicholaswatt BBC: this is quite interesting.

nicholaswatt

nicholaswatt The resignation of the second ethics Adviser speaks volumes. And the oily, smug and turgid explanation by R-Mogg leaves me entirely unconvinced. Meanwhile, we could have backed British industry while remaining in the EU. A major Market has been trashed and blighted.

nicholaswatt nonce

nicholaswatt Groggier is a prat

nicholaswatt I require and expect any UK government to consider all and any strategies in fulfilling their responsibility to protect and develop this nation. I do not expect advisors to pre-judge the action the government of the day may take following receipt of their advice. Goodbye Guidt.

nicholaswatt Well put JRM Jacob_Rees_Mogg 😁👍DefundTheBBC

nicholaswatt Fuck business or something like that.

nicholaswatt Failing Newsnight resorting to flashing one establishment Lord after another before us …to give itself ‘gravitas’. Still a failing news programme

nicholaswatt Os that reporter really backing foreign imported steel over UK produced steel?

nicholaswatt DefundTheBBC come on Boris, defund this traitorous mob.

nicholaswatt It’s rumoured ‘Boris’ has chosen his new Ethics Adviser. It’s thought to be Jack ‘Fisty’ Craze. An associate of Mr Craze, who declined to be named, said, ‘Fisty’s alright, bit-a-dis, bit-a-dat, know what I mean? Loves his mum…’ AFineRomance Jacob_Rees_Mogg

nicholaswatt Jacob Rees-Mogg spreads nationalistic propaganda about why Lord Geidt resigned because he knows the BBC will repeat it in a quote as if it's true and in his posh accent fools will believe it.

nicholaswatt Poor little Nick nicholaswatt thought he had his gotcha moment. Deary, deary me; the embarrassment at being owned is palpable.

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt True! He is backing British industry. Into a corner from which it will not escape undamaged from the disastrous economic environment his govt has created.

nicholaswatt JRM is just too clever for these people …

nicholaswatt Another Ill informed, and biased BBC journalist. DefundTheBBC

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt I seriously doubt Geidt used the term ‘odious’ about ‘helping British business’ unless it involved a suggestion of lawbreaking, criminality, immorality or corruption - take your pick - Johnson & his gang specialise in all the above usually more than one simultaneously.

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt What on earth does cosseted nanny boy JRM know about industry or the law for that matter ?

nicholaswatt Yeah right 'full report'.

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt 🤔

nicholaswatt Gee whiz

nicholaswatt Not very fair to ask this question to someone who doesn't even know in which century we are.

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt Who bought out British Steel?

nicholaswatt I don't really understand why you report his rubbish. If they don't have the guts to come on the programme and have their nonsense scrutinised then why should you give him any opp to smear Ld Geidt. Let their cowardice give more prominence on newsnight to opposition voices.

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt By burying it.

nicholaswatt Clueless and Gaslighting spring to mind, but then how else would he keep his non job

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt What to collapse!

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt The PM is backing himself

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt JRM another grifting trouserload

M_Davis2020 nicholaswatt

nicholaswatt Only criminals try to justify breaking the law. The rest of us live our lives within the rules of society

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt “… into a corner.”

nicholaswatt Charlatan with a posh accent.

nicholaswatt Mogg, as usual, spouting complete tosh in a posh voice. Geidt was an Ethics Advisor who left because Johnson has no ethics.

nicholaswatt The Prime Minister is not Parliament, yet claims its authority despite having lost the confidence of his backbenchers. So many actions by-passing Parliament is tantamount to a bloodless coup.

nicholaswatt If the PM is 'backing British industry' by deliberately breaking WTO rules etc to protect said British industry, the consequence will be that foreign countries will 'back' their own industry by doing one over our industries. So, Global UK will get a global trade war.

nicholaswatt The more excuses that come up, the more it looks like Geidt was just 'got rid off'. Wouldn't surprise me, the sort of thing that Johnson and his thugs would do

nicholaswatt When something is news put it on a news feed. When something is nonsense, please leave well alone.

nicholaswatt “Fuck Business” to quote the PM. And he has delivered on that promise.

nicholaswatt Lord Geidt, GCB GCVO OBE QSO PC FKC appears to be a staunch pillar of conservative society. Distinguished army career, Queen’s private secretary, Lord ….. etc. he obviously didn’t take this decision in haste ?

nicholaswatt What a con job by the Govt. A set up with Geidt as the patsy. I hope you challenge these comments as Rees-Mogg and others seem more than happy to break another international treaty & protectTory donors of course. Wasn’t he keen on WTO terms anyway? How naïve of Geidt though.

nicholaswatt It is always someone else's fault but not Boris fault. And definitely not Tories Brexiteers fault. Whole world is against Boris and his Brexiteers companion, poor people - whole world doesn't understand how big 'genius' Boris is......

nicholaswatt is there anyone stupid enough to believe this?

nicholaswatt Why are you speaking to the Minister without a proper job?

nicholaswatt I am old enough to remember Johnson saying “F*ck business”. But how he is backing it? 🤔

nicholaswatt Pure keyunt that Mogg. Pure!

nicholaswatt This is the same Rees-Mogg who wants to remove tariffs on other imports notably agricultural and food imports thus undermining the UK farming and food production industries by exposing them to competition from substandard imports. What a hypocrite.

nicholaswatt Lord Geidt's remit did not as far as I understand cover matters of trade and tariffs. However, maybe the underlying reason is closer to home and involves Tory donors? Let's be hearing the truth.

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt

nicholaswatt Is he though ?

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt We could have backed British industry while remaining in the EU. This is pure free market obsession driving this.

nicholaswatt

nicholaswatt Oh please, this rubbish is making my brain hurt

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt You know what he was planning was pretty dodgy when they roll Rees-Mogg out to explain it.

nicholaswatt Failed again BBC. Lies lies & more lies. Brexit is working with or without you. Deportations will happen to give Britan what was voted for. Time to remove fraudulent press associations You are a disgrace. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

nicholaswatt I smell a rat - Oh I can see one too

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt Breaking the law to benefit yourself or others is a crime. However you dress it up. And people who break one law don't stop there. They'll break other laws And next time, in one way or another, YOU may be the victim.

nicholaswatt The one thing this WEF Nazi CONservatives government is NOT doing, is backing British industry. This uneducated bunch have a pathological hatred of SMEs and sole traders. All part of GreatReset - BorisJohnson said enough times 'There's no going back'. newsnight

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt Thanks for the heads up, don't want to be listening to that condescending toff might bring up my tea

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt It’s either that, or like the Queen reused to turn up for opening of Parliament…

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt It’s all very well trying to gaslight the British public but all parliamentarians and politicians from other countries will make up their own minds on why the, hitherto, highly respected Lord Geidt, felt he had to resign!

nicholaswatt So not breaking the law because we make the laws, doesn't kite work like that anymore Jake

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt Prepare for 'Geidt is a nice man but clearly didn't understand the complexities', or, 'Geidt is a rather minor figure', or - the more common - 'Geidt is trying to reverse Brexit'.

nicholaswatt Utter charlatan

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt His penance after confession must be at least 10 decades of the rosary. ToryLiars

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt Shush

nicholaswatt I thought the PM said 'f*ck business'!? JohnsonOut143

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt Is there a great statesman in this corrupt Tory gang !

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt Why did Johnson need to check with Geidt that it was to be in order then? We're being taken for fools.

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt

BBCPolitics nicholaswatt No Boris Johnson backing anyone who donates to the Conservative Party meaning anyone who doesn't would miss out on Government contracts. Donations to political parties are in the public eye with individuals and their financial interests, even if in trusts easier to cover up.

nicholaswatt and you just let him spout his pish unchallenged, again and again and again and again.

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt Just remember - you have to ask the same question three times before they answer honestly - or is that just in films.

nicholaswatt Did you bother to challenge him on anything. Break apart his nonsense? Try? Be journalists?

lewis_goodall nicholaswatt Look at his demeanour - he looks like he’s silently shitting himself

nicholaswatt Mogg cannot have it all ways - UK Govt blocked anti-dumping actions proposed while still in the EU

nicholaswatt Well if he’s backing British industry, how about a cut in Corporation Tax for N.I levelling up with South of Ireland.

nicholaswatt No Jacob, the word you're looking for is fucking. 'The Prime Minister is fucking British industry' Doing to the nation what he's done to his numerous mistresses.

nicholaswatt the prime minister is back his crony donors

nicholaswatt Lol
