Boris Johnson is also said to have written in Whatsapp messages that he no longer believed 'all this NHS overwhelmed stuff' and wished he had not imposed the first lockdown.

‘Hardly anyone under 60 goes into hospital and of those virtually all survive. And I no longer buy all this nhs overwhelmed stuff. Folks I think we may need to recalibrate.Mr Johnson eventually did impose a four week national lockdown in England October 31, which came into force on November 5.

He claimed that the prime minister believed the first lockdown had been a ‘disaster’ and repeatedly said in meetings that he should never have imposed it. Mr Cummings claimed the Prime Minister referred to the Telegraph, which previously employed him as a journalist, as ‘my real boss’.He claimed that the prime minister had been eager to speak to the Queen in person before the first lockdown last year, and had to be dissuaded from it as she is in her 90s and vulnerable to the virus.

‘I just said if you, if you give her coronavirus and she dies what, what are you gonna, you can’t do that, you can’t risk that, that’s completely insane.Downing Street denied that this incident had happened. Mr Johnson ended up taking a 15-month break from his face-to-face weekly audience with the Queen after meeting her on March 11 2020 and they instead spoke on the phone.
