The technology has been developed by UK-based life sciences company LumiraDx, which has also struck a deal to provide supplies to the NHS in Scotland.

The test, which detects the presence of a Covid-19 antigen protein, is said to be considerably faster than other rapid tests currently being trialled, which produce results in an average time of 90 minutes. The service is available as a private pre-flight testing service for customers who require a test before travelling abroad. It is also available for people seeking peace of mind before seeing friends and family. The equipment connects to a cloud system, which could potentially allow for speedy tracking of disease outbreaks by health authorities.Speedy and comprehensive testing is thought vital to efforts to contain the second wave of the virus while the world waits for an effective vaccine.

But figures released last week showed that just 15.1% of people are currently receiving results within 24 hours through the official system in place in the UK.

Great but £120! Who can afford that? The few. As such a thing exists it should be readily available to all. If the government had followed WHO advice from the beginning 45,000 plus deaths could have been avoided and lock downs might have been unnecessary. Test, Test, Test.

£120 a pop. Another rip off by Boots. They will do anything to make money.

Fuck Boots.

Official ONS Data Compare the 2 graphs. Currently at the same or below the yearly average One is ALL deaths the other is ALL respiratory illness deaths in England & Wales 2016-2020 Notice the peak in lockdown months for 2020? not all respiratory PandemicIsOver no SecondWave

So more people can feed the casedemic while they get tested having no symptoms for a test that picks up any coronavirus even dead virus's

Nasal swabbing can be dangerous if the swab goes to far up the nose

Do they seriously think people who are not showing symptoms will pay that kind of money? I think not!

Even if I had a cold symptom I still won’t get a test but I would self distance , because it would look like I had the bloody plague , god forbid I coughed or sneezed outdoors !

£120!! How many of us will be able to afford that?

Good idea.

And it will keep the false positive fear doom loop going, forever! If you are not sick do not get a test. If you are sick have a few days at home. If someone at the BBC actually did some investigative journalism rather that stoke the fire of GOV propaganda and nonsense.

Peace of mind indeed!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

£120?!

£120.00 You're having a giraffe aren't you .

Why if you thought you had it would you go into Boots and if you are healthy but curious why would you get tested in Boots ?

£120 a time? That's like a kick in the teeth for anyone struggling to cope.

Getting a nasal swab done with Boots is likely to result in a broken nose...

Why would you want to pay £120 when you’re not showing symptoms?

However there are people that need a negative test when asymptomatic for travel to some counties, these people should not be adding to the nhs burden, and it’s probably fair they pay for this.

£120 for the test to test positive to have to take 2 weeks off with no pay. Let’s go

BootsUK £120, having a laugh. I’ll wait 48 hours if I need a test, thanks

I wouldn't even spend £1.20 on one of these tests!

Peace of mind for £120 ... I’m alright thanks 👍🏻

£120 for piece of mind? This is the most disgusting piece of profiting from fear so far in this pandemic.

Is this a scam 🤭🤭🤭

Please buy my 100 smarties for £120, but be warned that 3 of them will make you have 2 weeks off work likely unpaid.

Good old Boots, always there to rip off the NHS or make a quick few quid.

Great, so now when you go in for toiletries you can mix with people that suspect they have COVID-19 do you get points? boots test COVID19 coronavirus

Don't think I could stand one of them overgrown Cotton Buds up my nose for 12 minutes! 🤪🤭😁

A bit of peace of mind for 10 times the price in other countries?

STOP THE TESTS. TREAT THE SYMPTOMS. STOP THE SCAM.

My brother and My mothers husband and myself haven't seen my mum who is in a nursing home, since march. Have been told to spend 100 quid each to take a test so that we can see her for 30 minutes

£120 though That's disgusting. Well done, BootsUK, for getting yourselves a ticket on the Covid19 gravy train. 👏👏👏

So those with money can get on with their day to day lives and those who haven’t can’t. Huge moneymaker for Boots, not in the interests of all!!!

£120 for a £2.50 test? Well done Boots on the profiteering award.

Why would you go into a pharmacy if you think you have a highly contagious virus?

MichaelYeadon3 has done an amazing podcast explaining what the situation is. I urge everyone to listen in-full & share (it’s long but worth it). Then make up your own mind, research the points in it if you need to.

If you’re sick, stay at home. If it gets really bad call for help and they gets you in hospital. That’s the procedure for all other virus outbreaks, this nonsense of testing heathy people and manipulating the data to give them a positive then calling it a case is crazy!

In still trying to work out why someone with no symptoms would get tested

😂😂😂 £120 to get a false positive and be locked up for a fortnight. What sort of idiot would fall for this? 😂😂🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🐑🐑🐑🐑

These companies are making money 💰 a lot of it from this virus 🦠!

Is he giving her Coke

BBCScotlandNews People should avoid this. It’s another opportunity to make money and next thing Boris et al will be saying that we all have to pay for it Be aware of what is happening.

Stick your test

Too expensive for most people

To all those moaning about the cost...don’t use the service. It’s not for people with symptoms who want to know whether to self isolate its mainly for those off on holiday (currently available all over the show for £150-200) or the worried well. P.S. I’d love it to be free too.

Why on earth would anyone submit to one of these invasive, flawed tests when they feel perfectly well or just have a cold sniffle

Hope it is accurate.

what effect will this have on the tory privateer tester

What’s the FPR?

£120! Really?

£120!!!!

No thanks

why would you pay that amount of money if you do not have symptoms

Why would you need to spend money on a test to see if you could have covid? Surely if covid was that bad you wouldn’t need a test to see if you have it or not!

In all honesty a stick with a piece of cotton attached to the other end plus the reagents + machine shouldn’t be more than a fiver. A private company like boots doing it doubles the cost so it shouldn’t be more than £10

Might be just me but; go to Boots. If tested positive shop closed early due to close contact with Covid positive person. Sounds a good idea.

Sold for £120....And knowing Boots it probably costs them £10 to make each one....

A test that costs £120 is not really very helpful!!!

Thats clever direct people who think they have it on to our high streets ,

At what cost?

At a cool £100bn, this makes Operation Moonshot look a tad pricey ...

MattHancock So £120 for a test at Boots. Didn’t they get part of the Deloitte contract for T&T from the ToryHypocrites Did they use our money to develop this for their own gain?ToryCorruption

BBCScotlandNews Nope 👎

Why are people even discussing this How are people stupid enough to think they need to test for something when NOT showing symptoms? And it doesn't test for COViD.

BBCScotlandNews £120 who in their right mind will pay that 🤣🤣

BBCScotlandNews Do tax dodging Boots get to advertise on BBC now for free?

Great value for money there 😆

So a flu test

So...if bloody Boots can offer a test that will give results in 12 minutes, why the fuck is this Government buggering about saying they're looking for one, hopeful for one etc etc, clearly either not enough money in it for them, or one of their mates isn't involved😒😠😷

£120! It's almost as big a rip off as the TV licence.

I have some boots points to use ... How many do I need to use for a test 🤔

Extremely expensive.... absolutely crazy!!

Yes for £120 !

A lot of criticism from people who don’t seem to have actually read the article as it clearly says this is for pre travel fit to fly testing which quite rightly shouldn’t be covered by the NHS, and for anyone just wanting peace of mind before visiting family.

So for me, my wife and my son it would cost £360, that is disgusting in this day and age, I'm on reasonably decent money for for somebody with a household income of £1000 for a family of 4 it's nearly half the income. No thought for the lower or middle class here

For a whacking 120 quid! I despise this profiteering in a pandemic...

People are struggling more than ever and boots think it’s ok to charge £120 a test, but only if they don’t have any symptoms.

Boots website says that the test is not currently approved as a pre-flight test service. Might be worth updating your article.

Good but it is too expensive

Is this the same Boots, now owned by Walgreens that pays virtually no tax in this Country!

great news it can be done so quickly, presume this will be rolled out to care homes and vulnerable now...

Good. I won’t be going there for a flu jab...

The Dawn of 'Sick Until Proven Otherwise' Culture Continues

Have a negative test until you walk out the door and pass someone who has Covid and you are told to self isolation for 2 weeks thru no fault of your own

How much on track and trace, how much on consultants... this should be free

Business as usual

Do they come in menthol?

90 minutes turnaround is great but £120 a pop! Imagine testing your family! Sounds like someone’s making a lot of money out of a crisis.

£120 and it lasts until you walk out the test centre!

How are people going to afford this, disgusting making money out of people’s misery . This country is disgusting and going down the drain

So why if I'm showing no symptoms would I want to spend 120 quid on a test especially if I have no job no money due to restrictions and lockdowns and come on 12 minutes at 10 pounds a minute who gives these prices do you live in the real world 😂

At least an encouraging sign that quick, simple testing becoming more of a reality. Hopefully something similar available to care homes soon and eventually self-test kits for all. Track and trace if ever successful would simply see millions isolating on a never ending cycle.

When travelling to many countries you have to have injections or tests. This is just another one, I guess. This doesn't replace tests for symptomatic cases at home, that's free from NHS (Serco) sites.

JudgeChamaine

Can the stupid price b explained?

If you need a test to see if you have it.........then it aint that serious is it.

How will the cost help the poor and disadvantaged?

You can still get Covid as soon as you leave the store with your ‘negative’ results

In the middle of a pandemic, people losing their jobs, and this lot are charging £120 for a COVID19 test.

Will Boots be paying any tax perchance?

£120!!!!!!!!!!

Usually back of the throat and nose and 12 minute turnaround?

When then?

How much..see how they capitalise on suffering

Why would you pay £120 for a test if you didn’t have any COVID symptoms?!?

How does that work if someone has nasal issues and can't have a swab stuck up their hooter?

The privatization of Covid treatment begins.

That rules us pensioners out then. About the cost of a week's pension! Companies just out to make cash now it would seem from people's worries...

At what cost?

not having that up my beak for 12 minutes pal
