BLACK BOYS are being disproportionately subjected to being stripped-search by Met police officers, figures have revealed.
Black boys were overrepresented by 55% in the amount of strip-searches that had taken place without an appropriate adult present compared to their white and Asian peers.who was strip-searched by police officers while she was menstruating and had racism noted as a “influencing factor” in her treatment.
“The welfare and wellbeing of the black children the police come into contact with must be centred. Without doing so, trust in the police from our communities will continue to erode. We hope that the Metropolitan Police demonstrates its commitment to the anti-racist goals of theby reviewing its use of powers in this area. If strip search is to be used, it should only ever be as a last resort, with extensive safeguards in place.
The findings from the investigation said it was not reassured that the incident of Child Q was an “isolated issue,” before blaming systemic issues in the force as the cause for the surge in cases. “We also know there is huge disproportionality throughout our entire system – in health, in wealth, in education and often police are the ones in the spotlight but picking up the consequences of that,” he said.
