Fermanagh’s historic place names, townlands, rivers, loughs and maps are being celebrated with a special programme of events at Enniskillen Castle from Monday 4 September to Sunday 10 September.Enniskillen Castle will host the week-long residency of the OS200 project team from Queens University, Belfast and the University of Limerick, who are attempting to digitally map Ireland from 200 years ago as part of a new project.
Community workshops will be organised at the Castle each weekday morning to explore different aspects of how Fermanagh was documented and mapped 200 years ago. All of the events being held by the visiting academics will be free to attend. The residencies are being held in local authority museums on both sides of the Irish border, supported by a series of events.
“The project team are extremely excited to becoming to Fermanagh to engage with local communities on all aspects of the Ordnance Survey," Frances said.
