India has dropped a colonial-era tune from Beating Retreat celebrations to 'decolonise' the event.

A Scottish hymn, said to be Mahatma Gandhi's favourite, has been dropped from India's annual Republic Day celebrations, as part of what the government says is an "ongoing process of decolonising India".

"This song is more connected to the mass population because it honours all those who laid down their lives. It's more appropriate," the military spokesperson said. This year's celebrations coincide with the 75th anniversary of India's independence from British rule.Abide with Me is believed to have been one of Gandhi's favourite hymns

Manmohan Bahadur, a retired vice-marshal agrees that the connection with Gandhi is a reason to hold onto the colonial-era tune.

Community Leaders Fear Eric Adams’ Plan to End Gun Violence Leaves the Public Out of ‘Public Safety’Eric Adams’ plan to focus on law enforcement strategies—as opposed to more community-led initiatives—has some community leaders in New York City concerned, writes JosiahBates JosiahBates They need to take a back seat.....These community based programs make a lot of sense on paper. But statistics of crime in this city doesn't reflect the brilliance in theory. NYC is in a downward spiral now JosiahBates How about we do what we’ve been suggesting for ages; defund the police, let communities police themselves. Stop giving people have a badge and a gun and telling them to “enforce the law,” with no accountability for their actions. JosiahBates New York City is as Progressive as it gets. Violent crime is as much a part of the Progressive's culture as is human trafficking and abortion. This is how liberals choose to live.
