The BBC has apologised for a news report which contained a racist term, with its director general saying it"made a mistake".
The BBC News story saw social affairs correspondent Fiona Lamdin repeat the n-word, which was allegedly used in aIt ran on the BBC News Channel and local news programme Points West on 29 July, but the broadcaster stopped running it later that day., saying it felt like"a slap in the face to our community".
BBC director general Lord Tony Hall said the corporation"now accepts that we should have taken a different approach at the time of broadcast", adding that it would be"strengthening our guidance on offensive language".In an email to staff, Lord Hall said:"We are proud of the BBC's values of inclusion and respect, and have reflected
long and hard on what people have had to say about the use of the n-word and all racist language both inside and outside the organisation. "It should be clear that the BBC's intention was to highlight an alleged racist attack. This is important journalism which the BBC should be reporting on and we will continue to do so.
Using defamatory comments about white people is fine anything else is racist. Welcome to the new BBC where history is sanitized so as not to offend people who came here for a better and safer life, and turn on those who welcomed them.
But there not sorry for hiding all them nonces
We always new the bbc was a closet racist!! I don’t see any blacks in power at the top?
If you believe carrying on like this will improve relations forget it But then it is what you want isn't it.
The perfect bbc 😂😂😂 you couldn’t make it up
Personally I don’t believe that the BBC have anything to apologise for, as the victim thought the use of the word was important and gave their permission. However, I still detest the for their licensing and I hope this damages them badly. The more damage, the better!
Why are we constantly apologising for acts that are history ?
So the victims wishes have been forgotten..
😂
I've no doubt they're sorry they've been called out on it. Shameful organisation DefundTheBBC
Has the reporter been sacked? Danny Baker was 🤷🏼♂️
Outdated, bias racist BBC takes weeks to make a half arsed apology.
Should have happened last week but better late than never I guess.
BBCWorld sorry it was caught out using the N*** word while reporters grinned
What racist term?
They only did it in this case because they thought it would help to whip up more racial hatred towards white people to use the word when covering an attack on a black person.
Another organisation lubing up for the faux-ire of the Twittermob.
