Race issues in the nursing profession and the way race is being responded to as a risk factor as the NHS tackles Covid-19. Physicist Dr Helen Czerski. Desert Island Discs Day.Carol Cooper was awarded Nursing’s Diversity and Inclusion Champion of the Year award in 2019, she is a Regional NHS Head of equality, diversity and human rights and is the a Royal College of Nursing expert lead for BME Suicide Awareness, Equality, Diversity and Human Rights. She is also a Registered Nurse.
She talks to Jenni Murray about race issues in the nursing profession and the way it's being responded to as a risk factor, as the NHS tackles Covid-19. More in our series celebrating the women who get things done – the Troupers. Today, Louise Kershaw, the treasurer of the Flixton Social Lites WI in Cheshire
Plus ahead of World Oceans Day on Monday, the physicist, oceanographer and bubbles enthusiast, Dr Helen Czerski, talks about her time on board the Pelagia, a Dutch Oceanographic research vessel and her mission to perform a comprehensive health check on the North Sea. And as we celebrate Desert Island Discs Day on Radio 4, Danelle Pettman tells us about the track that’s made all the difference to her life in lock down.
Nice to hear a trained person, not the normal tv face preaching.
To a very large extent, the 'Registered Nurse' has posited well. I'm sure people 4rm BAME communities or backgrounds will attest to the centuries-old fact. Suffice it to state here that even our so-called Multilaterism Project- the UN rarely gets meaned against the untouchables.
catriona_ogilvy I haven't seen any inequality in the NHS. Quite the reverse.
Inequality is nothing to do with race or sex. Just ask any white, working-class boy from a sink estate in a sink town in N.E. England. What you call inequality is a desperate bid for victimhood status for your particular Identity group.
Loved hearing her story today. A real trooper!
Absolutely!!!

BBCRadio4 It's time to ditch the useless Lauren Laverne and tempt Kirsty Young to come back.
Had to be a black woman didn't it.... just like the BBC's very own 'diversity' officer. That's why the BBC only has a Woman's Hour EnjoyYourPrivilege
Waste of money job , draining much needed funds
Broadcast to a guilt-ridden western audience instead of to the actual culprits
This was so interesting. It certainly made me think.

BBCRadio4 I wrote this a few weeks ago, but relevant for today's desertislanddiscschallenge -
Is she concerned about men being twice as likely to die than women? Does she think those vulnerable men should be shielded? How does she feel about there being no Men's Hour for men to discuss it?
Pls can you explain why this is the pkg you have promoted and not the interview w Carol Cooper?
📢📢📢 'Racism is a public health issue' 📢📢📢 Vital interview with Birmingham NHS Carol Cooper: clearly, plainly, devastatingly spells out how BlackLivesMatter less in NHS. Every MP, Peer, NHS manager should listen. Could save lives.
Excellent interview. Time for action.
Carol Cooper for Prime Minister! Thank you Jenni Murray & Woman's Hour for that excellent interview with Carol Cooper, saying what needs to be said and doing what needs to be done. Brilliant.
BBCRadio4 What was the name of the artist and the track? I couldn’t catch it. It’s such a great tune!
Brilliant Helen
Superb interview. We need to improve health outcomes for our Black & ethnic minority patients. wres_team
Very helpful interview. Thank you
Carol was so eloquent in this discussion and I applaud her
Would be interesting to interview Nadine Dorries on this as I think she is supposed to be Minister for Health and Safety.
