BBC journalists have been told to avoid any online “virtual signalling” that could indicate a personal political view, as part of a crackdown on their social media accounts by the new director general, Tim Davie.

I see some of the bbc “stars” are actually virtue signaling on Twitter about not being able to virtue signal. Classic stuff.

Right-wing 'virtue signalling' is fine for them. They won't ban poppy shagging. Nor will they ban clapping for the NHS or clapping for carers, because they suit Tory propaganda aims.

After all, Hitler built the autobahns and Mussolini made the trains run on time.....

This used to be a standard in journalism. How about they return to presenting both sides of a story, equally, and letting the reader/viewer decide? No spin, no loaded emphasis, no personal view, just real reporting.

The public should massively NOT PAY the TV Licence - Ministers Lies , hate , racism being incompetent and to be making any government accountable is the job of all media -question thoroughly and if necessary don’t let them get away with it - it’s why journalists exist

The Tory propagandist is starting early.

Don't like a picture of a child being fed thats 'Virtue Signalling'

Read the article, it's a load of old bawlocks. Just The Guardian stirring as usual.

Can they signal 'HELP!' ?

Freeloaders!

This term needs to get in the bin...

In other words “support the tories or youre sacked” peachy

Id say the term, virtue signalling is itself a loaded political term carrying 'signals' of its own.

So no poppies?

Only RW dicks say “virtue signal.”

This should include the biased presenters on BBCNewsnight towards jeremycorbyn

Umm - is this even legal?

Particularly interested to see if the numerous right leaning politico journalists will have to stop their subtle bias which is far more dangerous than overtly expressing an opinion.

Simpler message would have been 'don't hold the Tories to account, even though they are s**t'.

Freedom of the press.

God help BBC from this smiling assassin!!

Why the fuck NOT? (use of Tory shithouse jargon noted, Tim.)

Talentless Nihal Arthanayake, they're talking to you bbc5live

🇦🇿

So we have a handpicked Tory DG (ex-councillor and failed parliamentary candidate for the Nasty party) who is doing Boris's bidding. There is something sinister in the fact that not even implied/ or potential criticism is to be allowed. If it was of a Labour Govt fine I presume

Why not go the whole hog and just make sure that all your employees sign a statement that they aren’t and have never been non-Tories.

Wow, I think this is a little chilling. How to you not have personal beliefs, ideas, opinions etc. Just show up at work as a blank slate?

So sad to see bbc self-destructing like this.

What’s a poppy then?

Nazi BBC, imagine being allowed your own opinion

Given that 'virtue signaling' is an insult, what is next to be banned? No cockwomblry? Abstain from being 'a right knobhead'? No member of Newsnight should have a cousin who's a total arse?

Looks like the BBC have misinterpreted what virtue signalling is. Telling staff not to post about genuine causes or opinions they support is not at all comparable to actual virtue signalling.

GiselaStuart Good

such belittling language to us. what are the policies about supporting conservative views or hate groups & speech.

Both children in need and red nose day would both fall under the don't support causes clause Rather suggesting it will difficult to police

Don’t be kind, don’t be thoughtful, don’t be caring of others who have so much less... Good God have the BBCNews lost their minds or just the Tory fawning heads at the top

Yes, because the BBC isn’t already massively right wing biased is it...

Tim Davie is a Tory shill

Do they have to snap to attention, arm up, and give a. Sieg heil to the chief?

TimeDavieFascistInChief BBCNews

This will be really hard to enforce. Will congratulating the fund raising efforts of old ex-servicemen like Sir Tom now be banned?

Why is that anyone using the terms 'virtue signal' or 'woke' is invariably a tosser of the highest order?

Says the man virtue signalling to his political masters.

The BBC (under chief fascist Tim Davie) no longer allows contracted people to be themselves anymore, to think for themselves or to react as themselves. Even if they are not on BBC time. This really is 1984 stuff. Scary.

Of course some people will deliberately misunderstand virtue signalling and label this as a ban on showing empathy or a moral conscience. Which of course it isn't.

Is that Tim Davie virtue signalling to his Tory overlords? Why yes, I think it is

nice

Do not act like a human being, it upsets the raging assholes

Halleluja

I take it they are banning poppies.

BBC Radio 4 - Woman's Hour, BAME Eating Disorders, Leaving Care, CyberstalkingLockdown has led to an online “stalkers paradise” with an increase in victims asking for help. pauletteish talks to KatyBourne and BhakerSuky from live_life_safe. DrSRanote “An increase in all races, but steeper in BAME”, my question is “How much steeper, as a percentage of the BAME population?”. We don’t get detail with Woman’s Hour, just BAME spin. DrSRanote Really great story. BAME over. Please don't put us all together. Do proper research. Good start. DrSRanote DrSRanote good interview however stop using the sloppy term BAME, say if we are talking about Africans or Indians or Black British or Caribbeans etc, this is very confusing. We need to know what we are talking about. Social economic factors affect these communities differently.
