THE BBC'S head of news has criticised Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis following her controversial critique of Dominic Cummings that sparked accusations of bias.

Fran Unsworth said Emily Maitlis' comments belonged “more on the op-ed page in a newspaper” than as the introduction to “an impartial broadcast programme”. She said she agreed with the BBC's ruling after the taxpayer funded corporation was forced to release an embarrassing statement saying the programme had not met"standards of due impartiality".

Sack her now

No it was not wrong.

So what are they going to do about it. Public apology, sack her perhaps.

And what is the penalty for her crass behaviour? Another BBC bonus?

It’s a magazine show.. her opinion. Just like your headlines, only less hateful.

I felt basically belonged more on the op-ed page in a newspaper than it did as the intro to an impartial broadcast programme’ I thought it was good. Needed saying. Everything she said was factually correct. Well they let Farage on Newsnight so honestly it was a matter of time lmao

BBC receives almost 24,000 complaints over Maitlis' Newsnight monologue criticising CummingsComplaints focussed on 'bias against Dominic Cummings and/or the Government', broadcaster says evidence. This is not a question of apportioning blame to anyone. It is a question of accountability to our audiences. Our audiences hold the BBC in high trust, not least because we hold ourselves to exacting standards, and we do not want to forfeit this by ignoring our own rules Clearly I don't agree and think this smacks of state control. For every complaint there would have been 10 quiet nods of agreement.
