British Airways refuses to meet Home Secretary

Britain's biggest airline, British Airways, has refused to attend a meeting with Home Secretary Priti Patel on Thursday to discuss the UK's quarantine plans.

BA has faced heavy criticism in parliament in recent days over a plan to slash jobs while accessing the government's furlough scheme. "The [furlough] scheme was not designed for taxpayers to fund the wages of employees only for those companies to put the same staff on notice of redundancy during the furlough period," Ms Tolhurst said.

The boss of the UK's biggest airport services company, Swissport, said on Thursday that the plan could deliver a"killer blow" to the tourism sector.Michael O'Leary, chief executive of Ryanair, echoed those concerns, saying the requirement to self-isolate would"significantly reduce European visitors".

pritipatel please please please resign. They might have an intern place at BA so you can learn

I know it's not funny... but it sort of is! 😁

I would refuse as well. Nasty piece of work

Bet she's devastated

I am sad to see people every where not working together to find viable solutions to pandemic situations.

This simply means they are refusing to develop a workable plan. They cannot accuse the government of not listening, or even of mismanagement, if they don’t want to talk. By this act, they exonerate the govt. from all blame🤔I hope the govt. haven’t been shelling out £££ for cv ..

Is Priti pregnant?

Are you bovered? You don't look bovered.

To be fair, I would too. pritiawful pritipathetic

Usually I don't really support BA coz of their obnoxious air crew but they are lesser of the 2 evils. Patel

Why no quarantine before now, why no face masks before now... remember herd immunity? It’s to protect those comming out of complete lockdown due to high risk.. 🤔

Syoungjba That's because they're awful, always have been

Money over lives

I shall shun BA now.,

Sometimes you have to pull back from the total incompetence of this government and look at one small incident as a barometer of their ineffectivess. The national airline has just refused to meet the Home Secretary - five years ago this would have dominated the papers for days.

How can someone who secretly met with another country and thereby harming her own nations security, then become the Home Secretary? Had me scratching my Swede for a while that one..

Don’t blame them. Would you want to talk to your executioner the night before your execution?

Jaw-jaw not War-war. Why would anyone of even moderate intelligence not want to engage with law makers? BA arrogant - who’d have thought it?

Good for them. Problem is this croaked Conservatives cult talk but they don't listen.

BA are a disgrace, they are busy treating their staff appalling but you report them as taking the higher ground and as the victims .. dreadful reporting

Brexit Airways

The Conservatives are about to let another British icon crash? I am shocked.

Well, BA won't be able to fly to EU next year as well... Like any other action in this crisis, it comes too late (but for some, you never can be on time as you react...) But this crisis will be nothing to the abrupt stop of around 100 free trade agreements on January 1st...

Good, it's time the industry stood up to this draconian nonsense. Well played BA/IAG.

Perhaps we should rethink their loan then?

Don't blame them, I get the feeling just being around her is bad luck.

Well British Airways are acting abominably but I wouldn’t meet her either.

How much public money did we give them?

Sure she won't lose any sleep

BA obviously doesn’t want its staff to be bullied and abused

Rude face ,Rude lady

You have spelt shun wrong. It's spelt S.U.L.K.I.N.G.. You are welcome 👍

If we had a competent Home Secretary the outcome might be different. We don't so that's that then.

Simple. No meet, no help. Goodbye BA.

The whole point is to keep people in the country and not have them go on holiday. 2018 people spent a lot £32bn abroad. Gov does not want that money leaving the UK. Its going to try and raise the economy by raising M1. Not the motorway.

First BA and other airlines are using govt furlough scheme to pay their employees and then axe the jobs of thousands. And now they refuse to maintain quarantine law for in coming passenger. Its a clear blow against home secretary. Does this govt fail to strict against them?

If BA wishes to stay afloat and retain the majority of slots at Heathrow then they better talk as this lady is not for turning

Do you know you can be making money online when sleeping or doing other jobs

Well that’s going to get the situation resolved, not!

BA are quite right to not meet with the bully HS. A lockdown Europe could have allowed travel within the EU and wae a bit of common sense, quite easily kept may people in the UK and EU in jobs. Its disgusting that this country is being crippled with many, unworkable decisions.

False language is the handmaiden of evil British_Airways pritipatel BorisJohnson HouseArrest

British Airways what is ur problem meeting Home Secretary? What is ur response to shareholders?

Aren’t they a Spanish owned company?

Great news....Well done BritishAirways 😊💖🌻xx

Compare British and Australian approaches and deaths to see value of quarantine. Nearly all new cases are showing up in quarantine period, thus not spreading.

Don’t blame them I wouldn’t want to meet with her pritipatel either she’s a nasty piece of work, a liar and a bully.

The government have made another late late decision and they ain't going to listen to anybody about changing it for at least a week or maybe less ha ha

Awwww...😶🤣🤣🤣awww..... Priti Pathetic is it....🤣🤣😭🤣

She again 🤦🏻‍♂️

Was it because BA would either cancel or turn up late.

Why not enter into dialogue? You are after all “British Airways”!!

Oh may I come instead please? I would love to tell her face to face what I think of her

British_Airways how unprofessional of you to behave like this. When all other countries airlines are following the self quarantine method why can’t you ? R u any exception ?

So would I... She's a smug fckwitt

No one, but no-one, refuses to meet Perma-Smirk Patel. 😉

Oh ok, they can give the money back which they took from the UK Covid relief scheme then.

They're Spanish!

don't blame them

So would I.

Talking to anyone from this government is a waste of time.

This is really important. Govt clowns have lost all credibility in business and society. God help us.

British_Airways unprofessional to refuse to meet pritipatel, Home Secretary is right to introduce mandatory 14 days quarantine for UK arrivals. Air bridges are complex & unworkable. One silent carrier on a flight can infect many people. Air travel carries risk of quick spread.
