Arthur Labinjo-Hughes ' grandmother Madeline Halcrow was in tears as she told how the six-year-old pleaded to stay with her when Thomas Hughes and Emma Tustin came to collect him

A tearful Madeline Halcrow said that the murdered little boy had "lost the sparkle in his eyes" the last time she saw him, during an interview on ITV's Good Morning Britain.She branded Thomas Hughes and Emma Tustin as "evil" and "sadistic" and "torturous" during the television appearance, reported BirminghamLive.

"I last saw Arthur on my birthday, October 21, he was the happiest child, he was very very much loved by everybody," she said."He was my daughter's baby bear and my sunny delight. But he had lost the sparkle in his eyes, if that makes sense.

"His dad came to pick him up and he asked his dad: "Is she in the car"?"Ms Halcrow then said that her grandson began to cry and didn't want to go.She continued: "And Arthur started to cry, and he asked me: "Grandma, can I stay with you?"

The tragic case where the youngster was killed at the hands of Tustin and Hughes has caused shock and an outpouring of grief around the country.Ms Halcrow was in tears and was given tissues as she told of the horror and her anger towards the culprits.

Tustin was jailed for life at Coventry Crown Court on Friday, with a minimum term of 29 years, after being found guilty of the six-year-old's murder.Little Arthur was found with 125 areas of bruising on his body after he died from unsurvivable brain injuries in June last year, while alone with Tustin.

His father, Hughes, 29, was sentenced to 21 years for manslaughter.Asked whether the sentences were long enough, Madeleine said: "No, life should mean life. They took away Arthur's life... there was no remorse, no sympathy shown."They'll never get to heaven, they'll burn in hell - if they get there."

Arthur was a keen Birmingham City fan and football teams in the Midlands paid their own tribute to him last week with an applause during the sixth minute of the games.The Blues were joined by rivals Aston Villa, as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Walsall and West Bromwich Albion in honouring the youngster.
