Many of us have been left wondering what this could mean for our contracts, how quickly we'll be paid and whether we can take on extra work elsewhere to make up the 20% dent to our salaries

However, if your employer cannot afford to cover your payments in the interim, then you would have to agree to defer payment of your wages until, possibly the end of May. If you don’t agree, and your employer fails to pay your wages, then this will be a breach of contract/an unlawful deductions from wages claim and you can sue your employer. But there isn’t a lot of use suing an employer without any cash and it will take you a long time for the matter to get to the Employment Tribunal.

"The updated guidance dated 4 April has clarified this point and advised that, if your contract allows, you can, in fact, take up additional work for other employers. [However, you cannot make money from, or provide services to, the employer that placed you on furlough leave, or any company linked or associated to that employer].

[That said, you must be able to return to work for the employer that placed you on furlough if they decide to stop furloughing you.

If I'm made redundant at the end of furlough leave am I entitled to the same redundancy pay and benefits that I would have been entitled to before furlough leave?
