'Our house is burning', French President Macron warns of the 'international crisis' in the Amazon rainforest

Media playback is unsupported on your deviceFrench President Emmanuel Macron has said the record number of fires in the Amazon rainforest is an"international crisis" that needs to top the agenda at this weekend's G7 summit.Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro responded by accusing Mr Macron of using the issue for"political gain".

He said calls to discuss the fires at the G7 summit in Biarritz, which Brazil is not participating in, evoke"a misplaced colonialist mindset". The largest rainforest in the world, the Amazon is a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming.

I say virtue. You say signal.

It's also overpopulated.

Problem with pretty much all politicians and our severely politicised/partisan media is that your city could be burning down and you wouldn't believe the news report on it. All of them are utterly discredited at this stage. Bullshit from all angles.

The Amazon is French?.

BBCPolitics He helped to set the fires.

Jacques Chirac told the exact same words in 2002 at the UN. summi in Johannesburgh. Macron was 15 then... just saying. The worst thing is that nothing changed... Amazon is still vanishing and burning.

“Our house is burning”? I thought he was referring to the streets of Paris rather than the Amazon rain forest.

BBCPolitics It’s taken 40 weeks to put his own fire out.

i have a suggestion put the fire out.

Hello so you do report about France ,Macrons tweets Have you heard about any demos at the weekend in France for the past few months ?

Macron virtue signalling, and tbh France is in a pretty decent state as they fully embraced nuclear energy generation. I'm sure Bolsonaro would be happy if the G7 paid for Brazil to maintain and reforest the amazon. Otherwise he can quite rightly tell them to get lost.

It's all happening on their watch. Let history remember this.

Yawn! It’s France that is burning under Macron’s disastrous leadership.

Our house ? It’s great jokes! That belongs to Brazil!

There's not international crises. France has nothing to do with this. It happens every year this season. The winter is hot and dry at Amazon and self combustion, regular. There're points of fire. Amazon is a land size-like western Europe. If a little bit get on fire it's half UK.

Só pra avisar ao Macron que a casa não é dele e ele deixa muito a desejar no quesito ambiental e humano no País dele então.Xiuuuu.

If only those damn yellow jackets would have paid the extra 50 cents per litre of gas, this whole fire would have been avoided

Yes but have your own house in order first .

Sure is ,the global community must work out plans and regulation on these issues. Also the markets for these predators must be eliminated.

At least the pressure is off me using the car to go to Tesco's!

Them fucking do something and sanction brazil.

Where are all the donations? Did wealthy people run out of cash after Notre Dame?
