Birdwatchers flocked to the moors to catch a glimpse and a photograph of the rare raptor, which is larger than a golden eagle. The 15-year-old said he had woken up at 02:00 BST on Sunday to be driven for an hour-and-a-half and he then hiked for another 90 minutes to get to where the bird, also known as a lammergeier, was spotted."There were about 100 people watching it and we were all so pleased. When I saw it I almost dropped my camera.Image captionPete Garrity, 58, also woke up early in the morning to get to Howden Moor near Sheffield.

georgegalloway You should see the gangs of Red Kites that congregate over Leeds!!

Wow

This might be the most valuable activity to do in the UK right now, seeing this bird, worth about 5000 trips to the shops, maybe more

I wonder what Gender that bird identifies as? TransAnimals

They’re arriving to pick the bones of what’s left, during the next 4 years.

Which moron will be the first to steal its eggs or kill the poor thing. Why publicise where it can be found

I spotted it soaring over Dunford Bridge near Holmfirth on Sunday afternoon 🙂

Vultures flying over the UK. Appropriate.

lottyleeming I'm sure there'll be a few Yorkshire gamekeepers (you know who you are) who'd love to be the one to poison, trap or shoot it

Always remember Bill Oddie saying 'A rare bird is a lost bird'. Although its brilliant to see them, chances are they sadly won't survive long or find a mate to breed with. Hope he finds his way home.

That’ll be the end of that bird now then 🤷🏻‍♂️

Getting good and ready for the second wave it seems.

Beautiful.

Some dick will be at its nest in no time now.

Leave it alone please. There'll be scientists and hunters out there licking their lips to either catch it for 'research' or kill it. Let us as humans try not to ruin things for once.

Why advertise it, you have just signed its death warrant.

Bad omen, vulture circulating due to doom UK economy.

Maybe it can eat a few COVIDIDIOTS

the vulture knows its 2020...

It's heard what a state the country is in.

It's getting ready for BREXIT,, Hunting for Gammon...

Faycebuk Is our Trisha back in town? Knew she'd turn up again once the pubs opened.

Quick run in case they Findus

I'd like to see the Gov issue a warning that anybody caught trying to steal the eggs, or even harming these and other birds of pray will see all their assets taken off them and given to the RSPB, but also they will receive a prison sentence of 10 years minimum.

Emily Thornbury is bigger. 👍

It's looking for Boris

I thought ‘raptors’ hunted and killed. iI thought vultures were scavengers. Can a vulture be a raptor?

Wonderful!

Does the vulture know something we don’t?

Probably be shot or captured... we can’t leave nature to be nature anymore

Bird watchers and twitchers are extremely weird people, you have just notified huge numbers of them to descend on this place hoping to catch a glimpse so they can tick off another species
