Former Prime Minister Tony Blair says 'maybe my generation of leaders were naive in thinking countries could be remade' but adds the values of the West are still those 'that free people choose'. Get the latest on Afghanistan:

Boris Johnson to defend his handling of the Afghan crisis in the Commons todayAfghan resistance leader is 'safe' and will deliver a message 'soon' - reportsTaliban says Afghan government to be announced shortly, but did not specify whenDelivering a speech at the Royal United Services Institute, Tony Blair described Islamism,"both the ideology and the violence", as a"first order security threat" which will"come to us" if left unchecked.

Mr Blair - who was prime minister when British troops entered Afghanistan - said that"poverty and under-development undoubtedly facilitate the extremists." Shams said:"We feel safe, and we appreciate the opportunity to be here. But some of my colleagues and relatives are in hiding from the Taliban. This reportedly includes US citizens who were not airlifted from Kabul in an international evacuation effort that saw 124,000 foreigners and at-risk Afghans flee.

The Taliban spokesman also admitted there have been issues for Afghans attempting to enter Pakistan through Charman and Torkham border crossings.Asked about fears women could be treated poorly under Taliban rule, Mr Mujahid insisted:"Women are an important part of our society."Afghan government to be announced shortly – Taliban

Mr Mujahid added that Haibatullah Akhundzada, supreme leader of the Taliban, is alive and will come into public view soon. The National Resistance Front has confirmed its leader Ahmad Massoud is"safe" following claims that Panjshir has fallen to the Taliban. "My main message that we need to put our arms around these people and support them in this difficult time stands."Speaking to Sky News, General Lord Richard Dannatt said that until six weeks ago, the Afghan National Army was successfully containing the Taliban.

We heard earlier from Armed Forces minister James Heappey, who said he knew of at least one veteran who had taken their own life in the past"week or so" following the withdrawal from Afghanistan. We've heard reports today that the Panjshir Valley – the last area in Afghanistan not under Taliban rule – has fallen to militant forces.

Local fighters held off the Soviets there in the 1980s and also the Taliban a decade later under the leadership of Mr Massoud. He claimed that people who had served in Afghanistan over the past 20 years have"taken their own lives in the last week or so because of the feelings they've had over what's happened".

Colonizer

A notorious war criminal.

Già tagliato il mullet?GianniVEVO2022 finita la moda?

He still justifies taking us to war to change the government of a non-threatening sovereign state. Being 'naive' in causing half a million deaths and the rise of ISIS doesn't really cover his war mongering and lies.

Didn't I see this guy in...

The media still in thrall to this criminal.

To understand mass murderers like Blair I recommend this book a read

Blair belong in prison for crimes against humanity and war crimes!

Why is this tit seducing the mainstream media?

That bastard should be in jail, not given a platform by you.

You’re looking at the face of pure evil. His only concern is enriching himself his children and his “friends” Blatant world capitalism in action.

Tony Blair is a convicted War criminal, TonyBlair. He was a crooked prime minister who was rewarded with $2.5 million from JP Morgan a year for supporting the war against Iraq. And he is selling his lies.

everything but naive

Which values? Racism? Imperialism? Capitalism? Exploitation? No 'free' sane person should choose western values

Those shoving their way of government weather democracy or communism down other's throat are not doing any good.

The only place for this evil man is the ICC The Hague! WarCriminal

Why is this war criminal given a platform?

This evil man has been popping up more and more regularly lately. I am really worried he's going to put himself in line for leader of the Labour Party. He's still younger than Corbyn when he was boss, and he'll probably be more popular than Kier!

mmmmm naivety was no excuse when there was history from which to learn. I recall when we went into Afghanistan that my grandad had a medal from the Third (!) Afghan War in 1919.

Does anyone honestly want to hear Blair talk?

Naive? Who? Country leaders? Really?

Naive or corrupt & self serving interests of leaders like him at first

The same applies to China as well. “Golden Error”...

There is a difference between being a Naive & being Stupid Puppet of UNITED STATES, and I'm sorry to say that UK is been ONE since end of 2nd WW. Naive, ha...

🤮

Results are just in …

Naive is one word for it, criminal is another.

War criminal

I am prepared to stand up for and fight for my freedoms, which is why I have no intention whatsoever of getting the ClotShot and becoming part of your great digital ID experiment in a new form of slavery.

He can talk, wmd fibber

The sooner this man is dead, the better.

That doesn’t sound anything like TB, CGI!

Who gives a feck what you say or do!

What are you giving this mass murderer a platform? He should be in clink! 😡

The West always think that they are one or many classes above the rest.

WarCrimes scummedia

Afghanistan: Boris Johnson to face MPs over handling of crisisBoris Johnson will vow to to use 'every economic, political and diplomatic lever' to help Afghans. To what end? It sickens me, but we couldn’t stay there once the US left, this is something he isn’t responsible for. It’ll be a legacy for all the west though. UK should never recognize or help the Taliban losers
