Some eating disorder charities think it’s a good idea

An estimated 1.25million people in the UK are suffering from an eating disorder, according to the charity. To tackle the issue, former GP Dr Luke Evans, who is now a Conservative MP, is suggesting influencers who are paid to post on social media should add a logo to their photos if they’ve enhanced their bodies with editing.

The former GP told Grazia: ‘I saw first-hand how unrealistic adverts can have a real, tangible and dangerous impact on eating disorders and body confidence issues. In instances where an image has been edited for commercial purposes, or where somebody has edited an image they are being paid to post, it is absolutely right that the image should carry a disclaimer. These edited images do not represent reality.

Teenagers who spend more time on social media are potentially more likely to develop eating disorders, according to research in the. Those who spend just 30 minutes a day on social media could have higher feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety and poor self-image, which could develop into unhealthy eating behaviours.
