For a hint of what the near future of this country holds, talk to Emily Pringle. At the end of June, she advertised a job with her home-fragrance firm, Notes of Northumberland. Based in pretty Alnwick, with lovely colleagues – 16 hours a week, working mainly in the shop. Pringle might ordinarily expect 40-odd CVs. This time, she was deluged: within a fortnight, almost 600 people applied.
over hyped. Thatcher got away with mass unemployment, so will bojo. expect a war.
I vividly recall the Thatcher years. People who did keep their jobs despised the unemployed. The news had daily reports, like'2,000 jobs have been lost today' , for many months. For decades many job losers had no control over their fate. Utterly miserable.

Would have been better if you have given a solution as to the way forward.
One thing that annoys me, HS2 & other big buck projects. These could be delayed for say, 5 years, & the cash saved used to power the economy through the worst of this pandemic. I keep reading we'll feel the full negative effect of this on the economy in 2 or 3 years time!

Nothing wrong with scented candles 🕯

We should have thrown everything we had & every resource available into a mass testing programme .. not shut down the country.
This has been obvious from the start. Not only a jobs crisis but a funding crisis that will be paid for by the few who do have jobs. This over-reaction to a virus that has a low death rate is unbelievable.
