A young woman found dead in Worcestershire said she was drinking with her friends the night before her body was discovered.

Sara Hopkins, 25, wrote on Facebook that her friends were 'cheering her up after a s*** week' in the evening of November 15.

Her body was found in Upton-upon-Severn, the next morning.

Police were called to the scene at roughly 8am on Saturday.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, West Mercia Police said.

He remains in police custody after detectives were granted extra time to question him.

Sara was described as 'positive' and 'kind' by her best friend

"Sara, I'll never forget you and the beautiful friendship that we had," she wrote.

"I'll love you forever and I'll always remember the many amazing years that we spent together. Rest easy, my girl."

She added: "You were my best friend during high school and carried on making me laugh and smile into our twenties.

"You were always so positive, kind and a great laugh to be around. You had my back when not many others did and I'll always be grateful for the time that we spent together."

Detective Inspector Jim Bayliss said yesterday: “Our enquiries are very much in their early stages and at this stage the woman’s death is being treated as suspicious.

"A man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“Extra officers will be in the area, both to carry out enquiries and to offer reassurance."

Police said the victim's next of kin had been informed.

Mr Bayliss added today: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman who has died at this incredibly difficult time. We have specially trained officers who are offering support.

“Our enquiries have continued throughout today as we work to establish the circumstances around the woman’s death and I would ask anyone who was near the fire station in Causeway Lane between around 11pm on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday to get in contact with us as they may have information that can help with our enquiries.”
