Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in the centre of Bournemouth last night.

Emergency services were called at just after 10pm and found the victim, 20, had been repeatedly knifed several times in the chest.

He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder who is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Dorset Police said they have now launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective chief inspector Richard Dixey said: ‘We are making extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

‘I am appealing for anyone who has witnessed the alleged assault and has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.’

Crime scene investigators are examining the scene while officers are also making house to house enquiries.
