Motorcyclist with a black bag over his head rides a moped on winding Austrian road for NINE MILES before he is stopped by police

  • Gunter Schachermayr attempted to ride 29 miles in Austria with bag on his head
  • He used only a radio to be able to navigate along the winding mountain road
  • The daredevil managed to complete nine miles before police stopped him

A daredevil was filmed riding a moped with a black bag on his head for almost nine miles before he was stopped by police in a shocking stunt.

Gunter Schachermayr claims to have broken the world record for riding blindfolded along the twisting mountain region of Grossglockner High Alpine Road between Salzburg and Carinthia, Austria.

He had planned to complete the 29-mile stretch wearing the mask while unable to see anything and being forced to breathe through a bottle of oxygen.

A team driving a support vehicle gave him instructions through a radio to warn him about approaching motorists as the road had not been shut off for the world record attempt.

He manages to round the bends of the mountain road with apparent ease as he follows the van ahead.

The clip ends with him next to a police car and reports state he was stopped after nine miles and charged with a series of offences, including not wearing a helmet and carrying dangerous goods.

The 41-year-old said: 'It's a new world record anyway… Although I'm a little worried about my driver's licence.'

Mr Schachermayr added that he spent three years preparing for the project and memorised each of the 36 corners of the road.

He said: 'I know exactly what speed and with which radius I have to drive around every curve.'

In the past, he has repeatedly caused a stir with his stunts. Previously, he rode to the top of the Bergisel ski jump on the rear wheel of his moped, attached himself to a bungee cord and plunged at full speed through five successive rows of glass.

In September, Mr Schachermayr crashed into Lake Wolfgang with his moped.

He admits only a handful of his world record attempts are actually recorded due to the high entry fees required.
