Before The Walking Dead returned to Fox and AMC earlier this year, several new cast members were announced by the show's bosses. Alongside fellow TWD newcomers Gamma (played by Thora Birch) and Virgil (Kevin Carroll) was Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas), a doctor working alongside Siddiq (Avi Nash) in Alexandria. Here’s all we know about the character and the actor who plays him.

Who plays Dante in The Walking Dead?
The newest member of the communities on The Walking Dead is played by Juan Javier Cardenas.
The character made his debut in the season 10 premiere as an aide to Siddiq and a fellow doctor – he recently appeared in episode three, Ghosts and continued to heal the sick in episode six, Bonds.
Dante makes his introduction when Siddiq begins suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTSD).
Siddiq begins seeing hallucinations as he struggles to deal with Alpha’s (Samantha Morton) mass-murder from season nine.

As such, Siddiq in unaware of the sound of his and Rosita’s (Christian Serratos) baby crying.
Dante brings the baby’s cries to Siddiq’s attention before joking that his fellow doctor’s gaze is romantically-motivated.
In Lines We Cross, Dante then helps put out the fire in the forest caused by the satellite wreck.
He also tends to an injured Oceanside man, proving his worth to the communities.

The Walking Dead’s newest cast member landed the role on the AMC series having starred in some of the USA’s biggest shows.
Earlier this year, Cardenas landed a recurring role on CBS cop-drama SWAT.
Before that, he impressed in the USA Network crime thriller Damnation.
Cardenas’ CV also boasts a role in Snowfall opposite another new TWD cast member, Kevin Carroll.

With Dante proving himself to be a valuable member of the communities, it looks like Cardenas could star in a number of episodes.
However, very little is known about the character’s future on the series.
Fans will just have to keep tuning into TWD to see if Dante play a major role in the new season.
With onscreen appearances in most of the season 10 episodes so far, it looks like Dante's in it for the long haul.
