A Glasgow community trust that is setting up a new hub for 'everybody' in the city is hoping to secure more sponsors for the project.

Hillwood Community Trust was founded in 1999 to bring the Hillwood Football Club further into the community, and to diversify activities in the area.

One of the trust's initiatives, which was to set up a football pitch in Priesthill around four years ago, has been used primarily by Alex McLeish's former team, Hillwood Football Club, and other Glasgow teams.

Now, the trust is planning to set up a community hub in Priesthill.

The hub will feature changing rooms for footballers using the Priesthill pitch, a safe space for youths and a place for elderly people to go and sit inside.

William Smith, chairman of Hillwood Community Trust and Hillwood Football Club, said: "We want to set up this hub for any age group, any gender, or any religion.

"We don’t care who you are, or where you come from, we just want to give help and support, and get more youths involved in the community.

"My focus is also concentrated on the elderly and giving them somewhere to go in the winter."

Mr Smith added that with Priesthill being 'one of the most deprived areas in the UK', this hub should give the community a space to go and socialise and take part in activities.

The project is being funded by the likes of Sportsscotland, Glasgow City Council and The Priesthill Barrett Trust.

With funding fairly secured, the trust is hoping to gain more sponsorships to help with the hub's costs and 'pave the way' for the building.

So far, the project is being sponsored by Enzo's Fish and Chips in Glasgow, which Mr Smith said has been "tremendous".

He added: "They are helping with the running costs of our football pitch and the building to assist with energy costs and so forth."

With planning permission approved and the final stages commencing, Mr Smith is feeling "very much excited".

He said: "We're very close to finalising the project, just a few more months.

"This will be big news and a wonderful achievement."
