Celebrity Gogglebox's Gyles Brandreth has appeared on the show alongside Dame Shirley Hancock, Coronation Street's Maureen Lipman and Absolutely Fabulous' Joanna Lumley, but this week he'll be seen with another TV legend.

Carol Vorderman, the veteran TV presenter best known for Countdown and the Pride of Britain Awards, announced that she would be joining Gyles this week.

"CELEBRITY GOGGLEBOX...," Carol wrote on Instagram. "So I'm making my debut this Friday 9pm on one of my favourite shows of all time and joining the @c4gogglebox gang....with my friend of 40 years @gylesbrandreth....

"Watch this week and let me know if you agree....we're a bit vocal....no holds barred."

Will they actually watch and react to any of this week's Countdown, which has Anne Robinson hosting, Rachel Riley on numbers, and Robert Rinder helping Susie Dent out in Dictionary Corner?

Speaking of Anne Robinson, she recently announced that she has quit the show after only one year as host, although she added that she actually recorded more episodes than she was originally contracted to.

"I have grandchildren, a large garden and a home in New York, all deserving more of my attention," she said.

Colin Murray has stepped in to host temporarily until a new host is found, having previously covered for Nick Hewer during COVID, calling it his "fave show ever".

Richard Osman, who recently announced he's leaving BBC One quiz show Pointless, was heavily rumoured to become permanent host of Countdown. However, he's ruled himself out and called for Murray to be given the job.

"I keep reading I'm the favourite to be the new Countdown host. But there are 3 problems," he tweeted.

"1. I just gave up a show I love because I have no time. 2. @susiedent and I are mortal enemies. 3. They should give the job to @ColinMurray."

Celebrity Gogglebox airs on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
